Thanks to the clear thinking of 9-year-old Travis Taylor, his family is alive to talk about the fire that totally destroyed their St. Anthony home. Travis awoke to black smoke in his room and managed to find his way to his parents room where he kicked the door until he awoke them and they could make their way outside.

Southwest Missouri State basketball team earned a 73-60 win over Augustana College to win the Central Region championship and advanced to the Elite Eight as Andrew Peschong, a junior player from Marshalltown, assisted in the win.

The South Tama Trojans managed to capture third place by winning the Class 3A consolation game at the Boys State Basketball Tournament when they defeated Carroll Kuemper 75-73 as Nathan Roberts led the scoring with 21 points followed by Mike Dvorak’s 14 and Todd Rosenberger’s 11 points.
