Thanksgiving program at Noon Optimist

The Noon Optimist Club of Marshalltown met at the Best Western Regency Inn on Nov. 22 with President John Danielson presiding. Pastor Mike Herschberger provided the invocation and the club followed with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Greg De Saulniers presented the community calendar of events.

Danielson noted the Holiday Lights were turned on for the first time for the public to view Nov. 19 at the Marshalltown Holiday Stroll on Main Street.

Jim Robinson provided the club with an update on the club polo shirt orders. If you are interested in placing an order, contact Robinson, DeSaulniers or Danielson. Information with regards to the order forms can be found on the Noon Optimist Club’s website. The absolute deadline to place an order is by Nov. 28.

Danielson noted an upcoming club event is the Girls’ and Boys’ MOBI. The Girls’ tournament is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2017 and the Boys’ for Feb. 4, 2017.

Danielson introduced the club’s guest speaker and Noon Optimist Club member, Herschberger, Reverend at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Herschberger gave his thoughts on the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. He included some interesting facts with regards to the holiday, including the percentage of turkey consumed by the United States on Thanksgiving Thursday compared to the rest of the calendar year and details on the first Thanksgiving football game.

The meeting concluded with the Optimist Creed. Join the group and find out how you can help enrich the youth in the community. Guests are always welcomed. Lunch meetings take place every Thursday at noon at the Best Western Regency Inn. Visit the website www.noonoptimist.org.
