Weeks updates Kiwanis PM on CIAA programs for all ages
The regular meeting of the Kiwanis P.M. was held Wednesday at O’Hungry’s. President elect Greg Baker called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence at 7 p.m. Rose Wagner introduced the guest speaker Keeley Weeks who is the passionate director of the Central Iowa Art Association or CIAA.
The Arts in the school systems have taken the greatest hits with budget cuts. CIAA, under the direction Weeks, is doing all it can to fill the gap that has been left, offering after school programs in April and May for pre-teens and teens and morning programs for ages 3-5. These are free to your student. On no-school-days there are Art Camps available to you students, there is a charge for this program but there is also a siding fee scale and scholarships available, this includes a Spring Art Camp March 6-10. These activities are geared to develop of the right brain, so often neglected by all of us. Weeks doesn’t stop with the youth, there are workshops for adults, Family programs and a Adult open Studio.
The CIAA also hosts monthly art exhibits, the month of January will feature Sarah Gilbert and is open to the public Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The next time you are struggling for a birthday party idea or something for your adult friends think about an Art Party Package at the local Art Center. There is all this and more at CIAA, for more information contact Weeks at 641-753-9013, firstname.lastname@example.org and on Facebook: Central Iowa Art Association.
The club continued by offering its sympathy to Candie Baker for the loss of her mother, and a reminder that the meeting next week will be a board meeting at Pizza Ranch.
