Hinderhofer shares green space vision for Miller Middle School

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Kiwanis P.M. President Kenny Lamb, right, welcomes eighth grade teacher Steve Hinderhofer who gave a program on his vision for cultivating Miller Middle School green space.

The Kiwanis P.M. met Wednesday at O’Hungry’s. President Kenny Lamb called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. Rose Wagner introduce the guest and speaker Steve Hinderhofer.

Hinderhofer is an eighth grade teacher at Miller Middle School with an enthusiastic love of teaching and his students. He teaches Health and his classroom is adjacent to the greenhouse on the third floor. This has opened a door for him to get students that may need additional attention or adult support involved in something other than school subjects, while also introducing them to the miracle of plant growth. Middle School students are at a point where they often are unsure of themselves and need the power of acceptance from adults through activities they are asked for help in. Hinderhofer has a vision for using some of the green spaces at Miller for tree planting and gardening that will benefit the community and keep students involved. He has applied for several grants to help with this vision.
