VFW Auxiliary prepares for contest’s winners supper
The Post and Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 met at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after a soup supper prepared by the Auxiliary. Linda Tasler, president, conducted the meeting according to the ritual. General Orders were read and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The treasurer’s report was read and filed subject to audit.
Correspondence was read from Marshalltown Park and Rec, Quilts of Valor and Stamps For the Wounded. Tasler sent 9,654 coupons to CIRSI. The Money March was conducted.
Department of Iowa Bingo will be at the Iowa Veterans Home on Feb. 24. The veterans need help to get down to play 1 p.m. and Bingo starts at 2 p.m. There are a lot of residents who need help with their cards also.
Discussion was held concerning the damage done to Riverside Cemetery from the storm, last year. They had damage to the flag holders, flags and poles themselves; it will be very costly money and manpower wise to fix the damage.
The Charter was draped for Helen Bryant. Next month there will be a meal for the Voice of Democracy, Patriotic Pen and Elementary Essay Contests. Supper will start at 5 p.m. at the Post Home, awards after.
