Adkins presents MICA program to Noon Optimist

The Noon Optimist Club of Marshalltown met at the Best Western Regency Inn on April 13 with 2nd Vice President Damon Morrison presiding. Rev. Mike Herschberger provided the invocation and the club followed with the Pledge of Allegiance. No guests were in attendance.

Greg DeSaulniers presented the club with the community calendar of events taking place over the next week throughout Marshall County. Herschberger provided a wrap-up summary of the Central Iowa Regional Special Olympics Championships. Morrison reminded the club of the upcoming Youth Appreciation Luncheon program, which will be held on May 11 at the Marshalltown Public Library. Morrison reminded the club of the Avenue of Flags project, which will have its first work day on Memorial Day holiday. Morrison also made note to the club of the Optimist International Junior Golf Iowa State Championship, which will be take place on June 8 at Elmwood Country Club and the American Legion Memorial Golf Course.

Larry Park introduced the club’s guest speaker, Janie Adkins of Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. Adkins discussed the function and services provided by MICA which is a private, nonprofit organization serving families in Central Iowa. She described the organization was established in 1965 to serve children and families affected by the conditions of poverty. MICA provides early childhood, health, family development and housing services as well as community enrichment programs.
