The Children’s Choir of Hope United Methodist Church including: Brett Stupp, Julie Sharp (snake charmer), Elizabeth Cox, Tana Martin (clown) and Christopher Baker (lion) practiced for their musical “The Greatest Show on Heaven and Earth.”

The LDF boys’ track team finished on top of the LDF-Garwin-Green Mountain triangular as Mark Halverson took two first for the Warhawks with the discus and shot put and miler star Mike Ford won by a long margin with a time of 4:56.6.

Lora Moore, 10, Shari Smith, 9, and Mark Runge, 10, displayed radish, carrot, lettuce and onion plants they were growing in miniature garden plots at Fisher Elementary School.

Travis Helm, of Marshalltown, a junior at Marshalltown High School, and Anna Squires, of Conrad, a junior at BCLUW were selected to represent Heart of Iowa Cooperative as 2007 Youth Tour Students in an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Marshalltown long jumper Nikki Baumgartner captured second place in the long jump event at the Drake Relays with a leap of 18.75 inches.

The Lenihan ninth graders captured a triangular with Ames Welch and Anson as Chris Hickson won the long jump, Dave Evans took first in both the low and high hurdles and Doug Beals was the top pole vaulter.

The North Tama girls 4×200 meter relay team of Sara Stoakes, Blaire Dinsdale, Morgan Halupnick and Brooke Dinsdale set a new school record at the Belle Plaine Invitational with a time of 1:47.06.

The MHS 4×400 relay team of Michelle Duder, Tara Sondall, Melissa Bayer and Dawn Hawkins finished in a time of 4:05.51 to secure third place in the Drake Relays.

The MHS girls’ golf squad claimed their first dual of the season in a 188-199 victory over Iowa Falls as Billie Jo Zeitner was named the medalist with a 43 followed by Julie Eichorn’s 46 and Donna Buchwalds, 49.

The West Marshall girls’ golf team won its dual with Bondurant-Farrar 202-236 as Kaitlyn Randall led the Trojans with a 48 which earned her medalist honors.

MHS sophomores Denise Zmolek and Cheryl Elsberry pulled the “Battered Boot” through the streets of Marshalltown to spread the word of the upcoming March of Dimes Walkathon.

MHS junior Kellyn Fogarty crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles clocking in at 53:68 seconds at the Drake Relays. This time was the recorded fastest time in the outdoor high school competition this year in the nation.

Ashley Moore, 7, of Whitten, studied probability with eight blue and 4 yellow marbles during BCLUW’s elementary math day activities. Kindergarten through fourth grade students studied various math applications to get students to think about creative ways to use math.

New officers take Y-Teen posts as Christy Speer was installed as president of the 8th Y-Teens; Becky Banzhaf was installed as president of the 9th Y-Teens and the 10th Y-Teens saw Martha Peterson installed as president for the 1977-78 year.
