• Patrick Allen Chamberlin made an initial appearance on a willful injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 5. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Rean Allen Webb, of Garwin, made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge, a criminal mischief-fourth degree-hate crime charge, a possession of a controlled substance charge, an unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge, a carrying weapons charge and a possession of methamphetamine charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 5. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Chad A. Betts made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Jeffrey Hazen is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Betts is being held without bond.

• Lori Ann Warden made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 12. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Cedano Thomas made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court.Thomas is being held without bond.

• Michael James Johnson Jr. made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 7. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Brooke Kadner made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Kadner pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Rean Webb was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine-first offense, possession of a Scheduled IV controlled substance and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.

• On Thursday, Chad Betts was arrested on a warrant.

• On Thursday, Cedano Thomas was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Michael Stevens was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, , Armando Lopez was arrested for driving while barred.

• On Thursday, Michael Johnson Jr. was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, a pickup driven by Marlon Alexus Valencia, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Center Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Terri Ann Landt, of Marshalltown, which had stopped abruptly in response to a non-contact vehicle slamming on its brakes. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Valencia pickup was estimated at $1,500 while the Landt vehicle received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, a car driven by Shirley Ann Southard, of Marshalltown, was exiting the Kwik Star pump area when it collided with the rear driver’s side wheel well on a pickup driven by Tina Marie Coppock, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Coppock pickup was estimated at $1,500 while the Southard car received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

Aug. 14

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke or odor removal at 1318 W. Main St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 612 E. Linn St., 208 N. 14th St., 202 N. 16th St., and 108 Washington St.

Aug. 15

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a building fire at 2705 Arnold Drive, three dispatched/cancelled en routes to: 1501 E. Nevada St., 1800 Marble Road, and 3100 240th St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 112 N. First St., 1501 E. Nevada St., 2010 Bryngelson Drive, and 1506 S. Sixth St.

Aug. 16

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three dispatched/cancelled en routes to 511 N. Second St., 1707 Elder Drive, and 11 S. 16th St., an extrication of victims from vehicle at 1500 Sanford Ave., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 201 E. Main St., and 312 W. High St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1310 W. Church St., 411 E. Church St., 910 May St., and 118 N. Center St.

Aug. 18

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 3202 S. 12th St., and Zeller Avenue, an unintentional transmission of alarm to 511 E. Church St., a false alarm or call at 2802 S. Center St., an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 1301 Summit St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 200 S. Center St., 1308 E. Olive St., 3402 S. Center St., and South Sixth Street.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 305 Jerome St., an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 1301 Summit St., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 710 Noble St., 202 N. Third Ave., 207 NewCastle Road, 104 S. 16th St., 207 NewCastle Road, and 19 1/2 S. Center St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire to 512 E. Church St., two unintentional transmission of alarm to 1301 Summit St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 101 NewCastle Road, an electrical wiring/equipment problem at 411 N. Center St., and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3315 S. Center St., 2013 S. Center St., 9 Palmer St., 403 W. State St., 306 NewCastle Road, 401 N. 13th Ave., 112 N. First St., and 208 E. Webster St.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Jessica Watson was arrested for contempt of court.

• On Thursday, Laken Schossow was arrested for no valid driver’s license and driving under suspension.

• On Thursday, Lori Warden was arrested for violation of probation.

Grundy County Sheriff

Accidents

• On Sunday, Aug. 13, a vehicle driven by Nicholas Rabbit, 25, of St. Charles, Mo., was northbound on Highway 14 approximately a half mile south of Highway 175 when it dropped off onto the east shoulder, struck a guardrail and cement culvert, flipped over landing on its wheels and started on fire. Rabbit was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident was investigated by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office along with assisting agencies: Grundy Center Fire and Ambulance, the Department of Transportation, the Grundy County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
