Marshalltown native Allison Osmundson was named the Missouri Valley Conference women’s soccer offensive player of the week after she scored the game-winning goal in both the University of Northern Iowa and Drake games.

The BCL-U-W volleyball team clinched a berth in the districts race when they defeated Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock 15-12, 15-11 and 15-11 as the Comets were led by Shannan Kadner’s 20-of-22 spikes with 14 kills, five assists, four blocks and 9-of-9 serve receptions.

The Bobcats once again overcame a slow start to defeat Ft. Dodge 24-26, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-22 in Class 4A Region 4 semifinal volleyball game action as Emily Smid had a team high 34 digs, Lauren Lockhart added 12 kills and Kelly Fitzgerald came through with 44 assists and three ace serves.

Eric Stevens had a big night as he led ninth-ranked East Marshall to a 41-14 Class 2A victory over Collins-Maxwell-Baxter when he rushed for 144 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns.

The MHS girls cross country squad finished in fourth place at district competition to qualify as a team for the state meet with Angela Susich and Bar Jay leading the way finishing 15th and 17th, respectively.

The MHS girls’ swim team took the league title in the 262-237 CIML’s National Division Meet as the 200 freestyle took first, the 200 medley relay was first and the diving and 100 breaststroke victories put them over the top.

Amy Stiehl, MHS freshman, qualified for the state diving and swimming meet when she finished fourth at the regional diving meet in Ft. Dodge with the top four finishers receiving automatic bids to state.

It took five sets, but the Bobcat volleyball squad slipped past the South Tama Trojans 15-4, 13-15, 10-15, 15-3 and 15-12 as MHS’ spiking game was set up by Jaimie Deibert’s 35 ace sets and on the receiving end of those sets were Amy Trowbridge, Michelle Airey, Jennie Schmidt and Tiffany VanGundy who combined for 82-of-101 spikes resulting in 29 kills.

Cathy Taylor and Illene Arends led the way for the Bobcat girls’ swim team season-ending victory over Central Waterloo as each recorded two first place finishes in the 106-64 victory. Taylor set a new school record in the 500 yard freestyle.
