• Brian Wayne Wengert made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The public defender’s office will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected parties.

• Raymond Gene Shogren made an initial appearance on a keeping a premises for the purposes of using or selling controlled substances charge, an ongoing criminal conduct charge, a controlled substance violation charge, a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge and a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. Bond is set at $100,000 cash only.

• Jason Allen Smith made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding air/blood flow charge, a child endangerment charge and a harassment-first degree charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. No-contact orders have been issued for the protected parties.

• Anita Nevarez-Ramos made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. Michael Marquess will continue as counsel. Nevarez-Ramos is being held without bond.

• Mamer Arou made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Darrell Meyer will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Arou is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office and sign a pre-trial release agreement. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Bret Patrick Ferneau made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge and a speeding charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4. Ferneau is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days to the court.

• Michael Pinegar, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with violation of the sex offender registry, a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4. Pinegar is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office and sign a pre-trial release agreement by 5 p.m. today. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days to the court.

• Joshua Lee Bailey made an initial appearance on an assault-causing bodily injury charge. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4. Bailey is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Curtis Carson made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, a case of fraud was reported in the 900 block of East Main Street.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, a theft was reported in the 300 block of Plaza Heights Road.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Bret Patrick Ferneau, 32, was cited for speeding.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Seton Smith, 41, was arrested for trespass.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Lane Williams, 21, was arrested for driving under suspension.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Drew Reimenschneider, 33, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Incidents

• On Monday, Nov. 13, a burglary of a motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle was reported in Rhodes.

• On Tuesday, Oct. 31, two reports of a theft were made to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Brian Wayne Wengert, 44, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Anita Maria Nevarez-Ramos, 29, was arrested for violation of probation.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Raymond Gene Shogren, 35, was arrested for possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense, keeping a premises for vehicle for controlled substance violation, ongoing criminal conduct, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and controlled substance violation.

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Seton Kelly Smith, 41, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, Nov. 14, a car driven by Melinda Sue Bonschmit, 42, of Clemons, was southbound on Marsh Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the east causing functional front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Bonschmit car was estimated at $6,500.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 14, a pickup driven by Jared Michael McRill, 31, of Albion, was northbound on Marsh Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the McRill pickup was estimated at $2,000.

• On Monday, Nov. 13, a pickup driven by Lyle Robert Etzen, 60, of State Center, was northbound on Highway 330 at the junction of Highway 30 when it went out of control on an icy bridge deck and struck the west guard rail causing damage to the left front. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Etzen pickup was estimated at $4,000.

• On Sunday, Nov. 12, a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Jay Cook, 46, of Haverhill, was northbound on Ingram Avenue when it struck a cow in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Cook vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

• On Saturday, Nov. 11, a vehicle driven by Billy Jack Oldbear Jr., 19, of Tama, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Oldbear vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

• On Saturday, Nov. 11, a pickup and trailer driven by Ryan Isaac Mesch, 27, of Union, was eastbound on Marble Road attempting a left turn onto Fairman Avenue when a pickup driven by Kenneth Carl Taft, 68, of Beaman, was in the process of passing the slower moving pickup and trailer resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Mesch was cited for no insurance and operation without registration. Damage to the Mesch pickup and trailer was estimated at $5,000 while the Taft pickup received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, Nov. 2, a vehicle driven by Alesha Lorraine Sanders, 30, of Le Grand, was eastbound on the Highway 30 off ramp when the driver lost control of the vehicle, exited to the right into the ditch rolling at least once before coming to rest. A female passenger was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown with possible injuries. Sanders was cited for driving while revoked, driving under suspension, no valid driver’s license and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Sanders vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
