• Eduardo Soto made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Jeffrey Hazen is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by an Administrative Court Judge. Soto is being held without bond.

• Jorge Hernandez Gomez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, an open container charge, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Hernandez Gomez will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 22. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days of release. Hernandez Gomez has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

• Mike Glenn made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Glenn is being held without bond.

• Pam Hoglan made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Brenna Nelson is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2018, in Magistrate Court.

• Jeremy Lavender made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 29. Lavender is released on his promise to appear.

• Shanteil Bradley made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Bradley pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2018, in Magistrate Court. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel.

• Dustin Trowbridge made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2018. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Stacie Carmer made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. Carmer pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Brandi Ford made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and an unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2018. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Dec. 14, Eduardo Luis Soto, 27, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Monday, Dec. 11, a car driven by Ronald Blaine Jansen, 57, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer which entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jansen car was estimated at $9,000.

• On Friday, Dec. 8, a minivan driven by Nancy Jean Farnsworth, 73, of Conrad, was eastbound on East Main Street Road when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Janey Lynn Swartz, 69, of Marshalltown, which was decelerating. No injuries were reported. Farnsworth was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Farnsworth minivan was estimated at $3,000 while the Swartz vehicle received an estimated $3,500 in damage.

• On Friday, Dec. 8, a semi driven by Bradley Andrew Metker, 36, of Boone, was westbound on Highway 30 when it left the traveled portion of the roadway and entered the median where it hit the Dillon crossover, a Yield-One Way sign and a Do Not Enter sign and came to rest in the median. No injuries were reported. Metker was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the semi was estimated at $5,000 while the Iowa Department of Transportation signs received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Monday, Dec. 4, an Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan was found located in the trees on property owned by Roger Leo Howe, of Clemons. The driver was not on the scene and the vehicle appeared to have gone straight off the road running into the trees causing severe damage. Contact of the owner was attempted with no success. Damage to the Silhouette minivan was estimated at $5,000.

Dec. 10

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 403 E. Southridge Road, and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 711 N. Fourth Ave., 309 N. First St., 112 N. Third St., 705 W. Iowa Ave., 608 N. Second Ave., and 208 E. Church St.

Dec. 9

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on Iowa Avenue East and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 206 1/2 N. Ninth St., Second Street, Linn Street, 107 N. 10th Ave., and 907 W. Boone St.

Dec. 8

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 2001 S. Fourth St., three outside rubbish fires at: 716 Noble St., 709 Noble St., and 1301 W. Olive St., and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 707 W. Boone St., 406 W. State St., 202 N. Second Ave., 1505 S. Center St., two at 206 N. Center St., and 2907 S. Sixth St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on 18th Avenue and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 407 Park St., 114 N. Eighth St., 3202 S. 12th St., and 201 S. 17th Ave.

Dec. 6

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 107 1/2 W. Grant St., 605 Thunderbird Drive, and 1501 E. Nevada St.

Dec. 5

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a system malfunction at 3303 S. Center St., two false alarms at 50 Lafrentz Lane, and 409 Sharon Ave., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 407 N. Third Ave., 1506 Laurel Drive, 2 N. Second Ave., 1001 S. Eighth Ave., 312 W. High St., and 1 W. Grant St.

Dec. 4

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on West Boone Street, a passenger vehicle fire at 700 S. Center St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 300 S. 18th Ave., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 3402 S. Center St., two outside rubbish fires at 207 S. Eighth Ave., and 1303 Marshall Drive, and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 303 S. First St., 510 NewCastle Road, 411 Lee St., 216 N. Second Ave., 206 N. Center St., and two at 303 S. First St.
