• Donnie Boucher made an initial appearance on a theft-first degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 1. Due to Boucher having to report a probation officer on a daily basis, he was released on his promise to appear.

• Jeffrey Lee Savage, of Le Grand, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 1. Savage is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Kerry Lee Fleming made an initial appearance on three counts of a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 26. Bond is set at $900 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Orlando Noe Vazquez made an initial appearance through counsel, Frank Kopcinski, on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge. The preliminary hearing is waived. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Talia Naomi Fosness made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a failure to use headlamps when required charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 1. Fosness is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Carey J. Peshel made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 7. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Daesha Underhill made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Underhill pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Walter Gilbert made an initial appearance on a speeding ticket charge. Due to the authorities failing to fill the ticket, the case was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed to the state.

• Melody Rose Hunt made an initial appearance on a striking an unattended vehicle charge. Hunt pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

Incidents

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, a theft-fifth degree was reported in the 300 block of South Third Avenue.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, Kerry Fleming, 33, was arrested for contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order.

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, Timothy Benson, 62, was arrested for public intoxication-first offense and operating while under the influence-second offense.

Accidents

• On Friday, Jan. 12, a vehicle driven by Ku Aye, 26, of Milwaukee, Wis., was southbound on South 18th Avenue when it came to the T-intersection with Burn Road, went off the roadway and crashed into several fence posts. No injuries were reported. Aye was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Aye vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the fence posts sustained an estimated $300 in damage.

• On Friday, Jan . 12, a car driven by Irvin Frederick Vaske, 84, of Marshalltown, was northbound in the 3300 block of South Center Street when it attempted a left turn toward a private driveway into the path of a pickup driven by Gary Lynn Shortley, 62, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Vaske car was estimated at $3,000 while the Shortley pickup received an estimated $3,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, a pickup driven by a 17-year-old male from Marshalltown was southbound on Woodland Street trying to negotiate a curve on a snow covered roadway when it slid off the road and into a fence. No injuries were reported. The juvenile was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the fence sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, a car driven by Martha Derose Rhodes, 73, of Marshalltown, was attempting to pull into a parking spot at Walmart when she hit a patch of ice and slid into a yellow post. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rhodes car was estimated at $1,500.

• On Wednesday, Jan. 10, a vehicle driven by Antonio Robles Solano, 64, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on East State Street approaching the intersection with North Third Avenue at the same moment a vehicle driven by Maria Elena Mendoza Nava, 31, of Marshalltown, which was traveling north on Third Avenue entered the intersection resulting in a collision. Both parties said the light was green. Robles Solano was cited for no valid driver’s license and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Robles Solano vehicle was estimated at $1,000 while the Mendoza Nava vehicle received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, Jeffrey Savage, 60, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance-first offense.

• On Thursday, Jan. 11, Shelynn Davis, 23, was arrested for violation of probation.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two carbon monoxide incidents on Laurel Drive and on South Sixth Street, a sprinkler activation due to a malfunction on East Olive Street and four medical assists with EMS crew to: North Fourth Street, North Second Street, Second Avenue and South Second Street.

Jan. 6

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call to South Seventh Street and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: East Linn Street, South Third Avenue, Nicholas Drive, North First Avenue, Jerome Street, North Third Avenue, South Seventh Avenue and West Grant Street.

Jan. 5

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a road freight or transport vehicle fire on Highland Acres Road and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: South 12th Street, two on West Main Street, East South Street, 1211 W. State St., West North Street, 606 W. Boone St., South Fifth Avenue and South Seventh Avenue.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke scare or odor of smoke on West State Street, a police matter on East Anson Street, and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: South Third Avenue, West State Street, East Anson Street and North Second Avenue.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional on South 12th Street, a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Sanford Avenue, a dispatched/cancelled en route to West Boone Street and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: West Meadow Lane, West Church Street, Jackson Street, South Third Avenue, East Grant Street, and North Fourth Avenue.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a combustible on North First Street, a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Center Street, a system malfunction at Lennox on South 12th Avenue and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: Marion Street, South First Avenue, East Main Street, East Linn Street, Lincoln Way, 1211 W. State St., West Grant Street and South 12th Street.
