• Toby E. Davis made an initial appearance on a absence from custody charge and on a warrant for probation revocation. The public defender’s office is appointed in both cases. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the absence charge at 1 p.m. on Jan. 23. The District Court will schedule the probation revocation hearing. Bond on the absence from custody charge is $5,000 cash only. Davis is being held without bond pending his probation revocation hearing.

• Miranda Sue Allen, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Joseph Vogel is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Allen was released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days to the court.

• Nicholas L. Davis made an initial appearance on a warrant for probation revocation. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The District Court will schedule the probation revocation hearing. Davis is being held without bond pending his probation revocation hearing.

• Luis Felipe Ordaz Ochoa made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Ordaz Ochoa was released on his promise to appear following the serving of a mittimus warrant from the District Court. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Anthony Nichols Hill made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Hill is released on his promise to appear.

• Ricky Harms, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Feb. 14. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• On Wednesday, Christopher Alan Mason was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Anthony Nichols Hill was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Martha Akuach Joseph was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Ronald Emmanuel Crawford-Hernandez was arrested on a warrant.

• On Monday, Lucas Michael Catherwood was arrested on a warrant.

• On Jan. 6, Bandak Wiyual Deng was arrested on a warrant.

• On Jan. 6, Benjamin Christian Hansen was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by John Reimer Sievers, of Marshalltown, was westbound on East Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sievers pickup was estimated at $2,500.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Bradley Jack Brinkmeyer, of Hubbard, was southbound on Canfield Avenue when a deer entered the roadway from the east ditch and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brinkmeyer vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Kimberly Vivian Nail was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Thursday, Toby Ernest Davis was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Nicholas Lee Davis was arrested for violation of probation.

• On Wednesday, Luis Felipe Ordaz Ochoa was arrested for possession of methamphetamine-first offense, on a warrant and on a warrant from another county.

• On Wednesday, Jeffrey Stoneking was arrested for theft-fifth degree-shoplifting.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a car driven by Lisa Jean Shearer, of Marshalltown, was backing out of the driveway at 304 Sharon Ave., when it attempted to navigate around another vehicle and struck the utility meter and pipes for the gas line at 302 Sharon Ave. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Shearer car was estimated at $2,000 while the utility meter and gas line received an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a car driven by Khup Lean Pau, of Marshalltown, was attempting to parallel park in the 10 block of North Center Street when the driver confused the gas and brake pedals accelerating onto the sidewalk and striking the business at 31 N. Center St. No injuries were reported. Pau was cited for failure to maintain control and violation of instruction permit. Damage to the Pau car was estimated at $2,500 while the Golden Land Asian Grocery Store front sustained an estimated $400 in damage.
