Four charged with drug offenses

A traffic stop by the Marshalltown Police Department earlier this week yielded four drug arrests.

According to MPD Capt. Chris Jones, an officer stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of East Olive Street at about 9 p.m. Thursday, suspecting the driver of operating while impaired.

Jones said when the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled the scent of marijuana and noticed the driver and three passengers were all allegedly using marijuana.

Arrested were:

• Sage Alberto Aragon, 19, charged with possession of a controlled substance (first offense marijuana); operating while under the influence (first offense); and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Oscar Avalos Jr., 21, charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (first offense); possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance (first offense marijuana); and possession of contraband in a correctional institution.

• Skylar Braxton Blocker, 18, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled substance (first offense marijuana).

• Eduardo Zamudio, 22, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled substance (second offense marijuana).

All four were booked and then transported to the Marshall County Jail. After initial court appearances Friday, Avalos and Aragon were released; Blocker and Zamudio posted bond.

• Randall Williams made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 20. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Justin Clyde Spencer made an initial appearance on two probation revocation requests and a sex offender registry violation charge. Public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. On the new charge, the preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 23. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Eric Lemus made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge and a no insurance charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Lemus is released on his promise to appear.

• Eduardo Zamudio made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Jeremiah Geffe is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Zamudio is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Madalyn Sue Livingston Vollmer made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Aaron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Livingston Vollmer is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Ray Lee Taylor made an initial appearance on a assault causing bodily injury charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Taylor is released on his promise to appear. The court ordered that he be photographed and fingerprinted in connection with this case.

• Charles Barshell Slebo made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge. Slebo will represent himself as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Slebo is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Brandon Michael Harris made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Harris will represent himself as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Harris is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Saul Mendoza Araujo made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Manuel Fujarte made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. Public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 3 p.m. on Feb. 14. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Oscar Junior Avalos made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge, a possession of contraband into a correctional institution charge, a possession of cocaine charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Avalos is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Nickie Ray Chaplin, of Hubbard, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge, a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and a possession of methamphetamine charge. Chaplin is hiring her own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Lindsay Allan Naylor made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a operating without registration charge, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Jan. 27 in Magistrate Court.

• Linda Moo made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Feb. 1 in Magistrate Court.

• Timothy J. Young made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Young pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Rebeckah Dawn Henry made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge and a no vaccination charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Feb. 1 in Magistrate Court.
