Fight leads to assault charge

An argument between two brothers escalated to a charge of domestic abuse assault with intent or displays of a weapon Monday night.

“An argument started over family matters,” said Marshalltown Police Cpt. Brian Batterson of the incident which ended in the arrest of Marshalltown resident Mark Edwin Moore, 52. “Tempers flared and one brother picked up a sword and was swinging it at the other brother.” He said the incident was reported at about 10:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 from the 1100 block of Washington St. Nobody at the scene was injured.

“The suspect was cooperative when police arrived,” he said. “Mr. Moore was taken to Marshall County Jail, he should make his (court) appearance (Tuesday) morning.”

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on South Sixth Street, a building fire at 719 N. Fourth Ave., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 1131 200th St., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 2005 Wardview Road, and 202 N. Fourth Ave.

Friday

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to five dispatched/cancelled en route to: 705 Iowa Ave. West, 309 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd., 314 N. 14th Ave., 206 Nicholas Drive, and 108 Washington St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 309 S. 12th Ave. Place, 1004 S. First Ave., 905 Iowa Ave. West, 1211 W. State St., and 205 N. 22nd St.

Thursday

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide incident at 1716 W. Lincoln Way, a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 600 block of West Madison Street, detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 823 S. 19th Ave., a fire at 521 N. First St., a gas leak at 302 Sharon Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 212 Thomas Drive, 3202 S. 12th St., 405 Woodbury St., 405 N. Third St., and 504 Woodbury St.
