• Kristopher John Bates made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge and a speeding charge. Bates will hire Chad Frese as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 3. Bates is released on his promise to appear.

• Kevin J. Dubon Cabrera made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. o n March 3. Dubon Cabrera was released on his promise to appear.

• James Kenneth Woods made an initial appearance on two counts of a child endangerment charge. The public defender’s office is appointed to this case. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 3. Woods is released on his promise to appear. No-contact orders were issued for the protected parties.

• Christie Janel Kapayou, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. the public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 3. Kapayou was released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, a car driven by James Edward Farley, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Summit Street headed downhill when it was unable to slow due to the icy road conditions resulting in it going over the curb and striking a light pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Farley car was estimated at $5,000.

• On Friday, a minivan driven by Norida Lopez-De-Barrera, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Merle Hibbs Boulevard when it left the traveled portion of the roadway driving into the yard at 505 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd., striking a street sign and tree and continued driving through the yard on a broken wheel until it reached 208 Glenda Drive. No injuries were reported. Lopez-De-Barrera was cited for failure to provide information on an accident-property damage. Damage to the Lopez-De-Barrera minivan was estimated at $2,500 while the tree sustained an estimated $500 in damage and the street sign an estimated $150 in damage.

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Rodney A. Lawrence, of Lenexa, Kan., was westbound on East Church Street and attempted a left turn from the far lane colliding with the passenger front corner of a pickup driven by Kevin John Marks, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Lawrence vehicle was estimated at $900 while the Marks pickup received an estimated $800 in damage.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Murray Edward McHone, of Marshalltown, was southbound on 18th Avenue when it ran the red light at the East Nevada Street intersection and was struck broadside by a Jeep driven by Edward Christopher Nielsen, of Marshalltown, which was westbound on East Nevada Street. No injuries were reported. McHone was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the McHone car was estimated at $6,500 while the Nielsen Jeep received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
