Monday

• Kari Ann Underhill made an initial appearance on a interference with official acts charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on March 22 in Magistrate Court.

Underhill is released on her promise to appear.

• Timothy Baer, of Albion, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 10. Baer is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days to the court.

• Devonte Vashonne Stewart made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. A rocket docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on March 31 in Magistrate Court. Stewart is released on his promise to appear.

• Rueben Lee Hickman made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 plus a fee for service of warrant, due within 30 days. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Cody Michael Varnum made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 10. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Daniel Thomas Warnell made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on March 20. Warnell is released on his promise to appear.

• Roderick Wade Bailey made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. Bailey pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 on court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Jesse Dean Thill made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release charge. Kevin O’Hare will continue as counsel. Thill’s next court dates are: Pre-trial conference at 9 a.m. on March 10 and a jury trial at 9 a.m. on March 21. Thill is being held without bond.

• Jennifer Kaysejane Barkalow made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. Barkalow’s next court appearance is an arraignment hearing at 1 p.m. on March 7. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Mark Edwin Moore made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-second offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 13. Moore is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Saturday, a citizen reported hit and run damage to a telecommunications box belonging to CenturyLink by a red Ford Escort. No injuries were reported. The owner was cited for leaving the scene of an accident. Damage to the telecommunications box was estimated at $10,000.

• On Friday, a car driven by Khambia Joy Clarkson, of Albion, was driving in the trailer park at 3202 S. 12th St., when it clipped the corner of a trailer belonging to Emily Goken. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Goken trailer was estimated at $2,000 while the Clarkson car received an estimated $150 in damage.

• On Feb. 13, a vehicle driven by Benny Lee Rodriguez, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Third Street when it went through the stop sign at the intersection with West Church Street and collided with a Jeep driven by Daisy Rodriguez De Clavel, of Marshalltown, which was making a left turn onto Third Street. Benny Rodriguez was transported to Central Iowa Healthcare. Benny Rodriguez was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Sunday, Paul Thomas, 61, of Eldora, was arrested on 220th Street east of E Avenue and charged with operating while intoxicated-first offense. Thomas was released on his promise to appear.

• On Friday, Joseph Sires, 21, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center on a Black Hawk County warrant charging him with failure to appear. Sires was released to the Black Hawk County authorities.

Accidents

• On Feb. 13, a vehicle driven by Scott Neblung, 51, of Vinton, was on the westbound off ramp of Highway 20 at Highway 14 when his foot slipped off the brake and his vehicle rolled into the rear of a semi driven by Michael Moser, 41, of North Bend, Neb. No injuries were reported. Neblung was cited for failure to stop in a clear, assured distance. Damage to the Neblung vehicle was estimated at $1,500 while the Moser semi received an estimated $300 in damage.

• On Saturday, Feb. 11, a vehicle driven by Derrick Thran, 18, of Grundy Center, was northbound on P Avenue south of 250th Street when it went out of control, over corrected, overturned and came to rest on its top on the roadway. No injures were reported. Thran was cited for possession of alcohol under legal age limit and failure to wear a seat belt. The accident remains under investigation.
