• Wayne Paul Johnson made an initial appearance on three counts of a forgery charge and a theft-third degree charge (enhanced). Scott Hunter is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 3. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Horace Whack III made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-strangulation-causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on March 3. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. If he owns or possesses any firearms or ammunition, Whack is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Shaunna Lynn Ellingson, of Farmington, made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine-first offense charge, a possession of a Scheduled IV controlled substance charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 3. Ellingson is released on her promise to appear. The only condition is that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

• Billie Leann Welch, of Nevada, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on March 22. Welch is released on her promise to appear.

• Juan Reyes made an initial appearance through counsel, Michael Marquess, on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a careless driving charge and a operation without registration charge. The preliminary hearing has been waived. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Terron B. Martin, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a pre-trial conference on a public consumption charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 plus a service of warrant fee, due within 30 days.

• Brent Raymond Smith made an initial appearance in Magistrate Court through counsel, Michael Marquess, on a harassment-third degree charge. The case was transferred to Associate District court.

• Tavesha McWilliams made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. McWilliams pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Breanna Pieters made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge and a simple assault charge. Pieters pleaded guilty to both charges and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 on each charge, due within 30 days.

• Renaud made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on March 29 in Magistrate Court.

Accidents

• On Monday, a pickup driven by Robert Jay Rabey, of State Center, was southbound on Highway 330 when a deer entered the roadway from the median area and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rabey pickup was estimated at $3,000.

• On Monday, a car driven by Donna Kay Ball, of State Center, was southbound on Highway 330 when seven deer ran onto the roadway, one of them striking the front quarter panel and swinging around damaging the driver’s side of the vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ball car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Mayra Alejandra Gallardo, of Toledo, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a sofa in the middle of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Gallardo car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Feb. 10, a car driven by Kim Lee Goecke, of Union, was westbound on Marble Road near the intersection with Jessup Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing functional front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Goecke car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Feb. 6, a vehicle driven by Mary Louise Bartine, of St. Anthony, was eastbound on West Main Street in State Center when it collided with a car already in the intersection driven by Tabitha Marilyn Cutler, of Marshalltown. Cutler transported herself and passenger, Diana Kaye Morgan, of Marshalltown, to Central Iowa Healthcare with possible injuries. Bartine was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Bartine vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the Cutler car received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
