Monday

• Lewis Henry Miller, of Gilman, made an initial appearance on a harassment-first degree (enhanced) charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Christian L. Fisher made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing. The public defender’s office will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is rescheduled at 2 p.m. on March 22. Fisher is being held without bond.

• Devonte Veshonne Stewart made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Stewart was sentenced to seven consecutive days in jail to be served by Aug. 1 plus paying court costs. Stewart was released on his promise to appear.

• Faithyna Leonard made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in an assured, clear distance charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Austin Peter Bair made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on March 8 in Magistrate Court.

• Maria Michaela Veliz Balderas made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine is $25 with a $8.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $93.75, due within 30 days.

• On Saturday, Michael Jon Weatherly was arrested for driving under suspension.

• On Sunday, Devonte Veshonne Stewart was arrested for violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court.

• On Sunday, Scott William Doc Slocum was arrested for dogs at large.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Priscilla Jurado, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Center Street traveling over the viaduct when a vehicle in front driven by Mario Lares Rivas, of Marshalltown, slowed for the icy road conditions resulting in the Jurado car colliding with the rear of the Lares Rivas vehicle. No injuries were reported. Jurado was cited fort no insurance-accident. Damage to the Jurado car was estimated at $4,500 while the Lares Rivas vehicle received an estimated $1,500 in damage.• On Sunday, a car driven by Jonathan Wayne Mills, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Nicholas Drive when it made a left turn onto South Center Street and collided with a vehicle driven by Adela Rangel de Rangel, of Marshalltown which was northbound on Center Street. Rangel de Rangel was cited for no insurance. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Mills car was estimated at $2,500 while the Rangel de Rangel vehicle received an estimated $1,800 in damage.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Joseph D. Lindsey, of Chicago, Ill., was eastbound in the 300 block of Westwood Drive when the driver took his eyes off the roadway and struck a legally parked Kia Optima on the south side of the street. No injuries were reported. Lindsey was cited for operation without registration and failure to maintain control. Damage to the LIndsey car was estimated at $8,000 while the Kia Optima received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, , a car driven by Mindy Sue Niedermann, of Nevada, was westbound on Southridge Road when it struck a legally parked Ford Mustang on the driver’s side rear causing severe damage and moving it onto the terrace and then struck the front end. No injuries were reported. Niedermann was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Niedermann car was estimated at $3,000 while the Ford Mustang received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, a Jeep driven by Mark Allen Freland, of Marshalltown, was parking at the Git & Go on West Lincoln Way when the driver failed to put the Jeep in park. Freland jumped back inside to try to stop the forward motion and hit the accelerator instead of the brake resulting in the Jeep striking the building. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Freland Jeep was estimated at $1,500 while the Git & Go building received an estimated $10,000 in damage.
