Local Crime Stoppers tip leads to three arrests

Last September, the Marshalltown Police Department took reports numerous vehicle windows and several house windows damaged by someone using a BB/pellet gun or similar device. The MPD received a tip through the Marshall County Crime Stoppers regarding this case. The tip led to the arrest of the following three local residents:

• Jack Bown, 2369 Jessup Ave. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (Class C Felony).

• Aaron Gould, 2715 Marsh Ave. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (Class C Felony).

• Brandon Griggs, 18, 106 S. 6th Ave. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (Class C Felony).

The case remains under investigation.

Additionally, on March 5, the MPD recovered a vehicle reported stolen from Polk County and the agency also received a report of a stolen vehicle in Marshalltown. That vehicle was recovered by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office on March 6.

Arrested in connection in both incidents was Griggs. He was charged with two counts of Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony).

The case is still under investigation.

• Truman Allen McKinney made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. McKinney will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 3. McKinney was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Tiffany L. Harris made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 3. Harris is released on her promise to appear.

• Scott Steiert made an initial appearance through counsel, Michael Marquess, on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge. The preliminary hearing is waived. The previously posted bond will continue until the conclusion of this case.

• Rosalva Castellanos made an initial appearance on an assault charge. Castellanos pleaded not guilty and will hire her own counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on April 19 in Magistrate Court. Castellanos is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Daryl Wayne Ferguson, of Rapid City, S.D., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge and a interference with official acts charge. Ferguson pleaded guilty to both charges. On the public intoxication charge the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the interference charge is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Hector Lizarde Garcia made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Lizarde Garcia pleaded not guilty. Emily Swartz is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on April 19. Lizarde Garcia is released on his promise to appear.

• Shaun O. Kudelka made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 2 p.m. on March 31. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Jack Lee Bown made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-first degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 24. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

• Aaron Patrick Gould, of Haverhill, made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-first degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 24. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

• Mark Anthony Shattuck made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge, an unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 24. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Desmond Quantavon Prinn Clark made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Clark pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Monday, a snowplow driven by Richard Matthew Weitzell, of Le Grand, was northbound on South Second Street approaching the intersection with West Southridge Road when the weather conditions made it unable to stop and the snowplow slid into the passenger bumper on a vehicle driven by Steven Ray Gile, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Gile vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Timothy Paul Necker, of Waller, Texas, was traveling west on Iowa Avenue West when it went out of control on the snowy roadway crossing over the other lane resulting in a minivan driven by Jerry Robert Hinders, of Marshalltown, colliding with the front passenger side bumper. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Necker vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the Hinders minivan received an estimated $1,000 in damage.
