• Nykeisha Antoinette Thomas made an initial appearance on an assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 7. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Gustavo Alonso Perez Jr. made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a simple domestic abuse assault charge. Perez pleaded not guilty. Emily Swartz is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on July 12 in Magistrate Court. Perez is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Scott Kerry Johnson, of Hermantown, Minn., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Johnson pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Jesus Alvarez Mederos made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a disorderly conduct charge. Mederos pleaded not guilty. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on July 12 in Magistrate Court. Mederos is released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, June 13, a vehicle driven by Cecil Albert Buschbom, of Marshalltown, was entering a parking lot off of Frontage Road when the driver was blinded by the sun and the vehicle collided with a car driven by Allie Michelle Koshak, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,200 each.

• On Friday, June 9, a car driven by Antonio Jaramillo, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Fourth Street when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a legally parked Buick sending it into the Madison Street and Fourth Street intersection where it stopped. Jaramillo left the scene, but was later identified. No injuries were reported. Jaramillo is cited for leaving the scene of an accident and striking unattended vehicle. Damage to both cars was estimated at $5,000 each.
