Monday

• Joshua Studdard made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-first offense charge, a domestic assault charge and a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jennifer Meyer is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the two assault charges is set at 1 p.m. on June 16. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Studdard is released on his promise to appear. If he owns or possesses any firearms, Studdard is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff immediately and make arrangements to surrender them. New no-contact orders have been issued in all three cases.

• Dillon Michael Wiegel, of Cedar Rapids, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a speeding charge, a no insurance charge, an open container charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a possession of marijuana-second offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Wiegel will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 22. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• Emmanuel Ortiz Sanchez made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a no insurance charge and a failure to use headlamps when required charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 23. Ortiz Sanchez is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

• James Lee Morford made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeffrey Hazen will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued in this case.

• Joy Renae Osland made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine is $25 with a $8.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $93.75, due within 30 days.

• Nicholas Earl Hanke made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a speeding charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the drug paraphernalia charge, the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75. The fine on the speeding charge is $20 with a $7 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $92. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Michael Clay Bishop made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. Jeffrey Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 16. Bishop is released on his promise to appear.

• On Friday, Brett Aaron Simmerman was cited for owner-allowing motor vehicle law violations.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Anna Katherine Suetterlin, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Center Street when it went through a red light at South Street colliding with passenger side front quarter panel on a car driven by Trevor James Sielaff, of Marshalltown, pushing the Suetterlin car in a southwest direction until it collided with the driver side front quarter panel of a car driven by Rodrigo L. Borras, of Marshalltown. Suetterlin was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Suetterlin was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Suetterlin car was estimated at $5,500 while the Sielaff car received an estimated $2,500 in damage and the Borras car a $1,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a minivan owned by Brett Simmerman was turning onto North 14th Street from Summit Street when it struck a utility pole owned by Alliant Energy and left the scene. When the vehicle was located in Simmerman’s driveway, he was cited for owner-allowing motor vehicle law violations. Damage to the Simmerman minivan was estimated at $1,500 while the utility pole received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Friday,Tori Lynee Sprague was arrested on a warrant.• On Sunday, James Lee Morford was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

• On Sunday, Sharon Lynn Schaumburg was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine-first offense.

• On Sunday, Nathan Wayne Jones was arrested on a warrant.

• On Sunday, Spencer Ray Dieleman was arrested for operating while under the influence-second offense.

• On Sunday, Andres Marino De Mota Alvarez was arrested on a warrant.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Friday, May 26, Collin Kappel, 28, of Iowa Falls, was arrested on Highway 20 and charged with driving while license is suspended and harassment of a public official. Kappel was released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, May 30, a car driven by Robert Goodin, 63, of Bondurant, was westbound on Highway 20 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Goodin car was estimated at $3,500.

• On Wednesday, May 31, a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female from Conrad was westbound on 290th Street east of S-75 when the driver lost control, entered the south ditch and rolled. The juvenile reported minor injuries. Damage to the juvenile’s vehicle was estimated at $4,500.

• On Friday, June 2, a car driven by Jose Mendoza-Jaramillo, 20, of Waterloo, was southbound on Highway 14 attempting to pass a semi driven by Storm Holze, 26, of Thornton, when it met an oncoming vehicle and attempted to return to his lane colliding with the left front of the semi resulting in the car going out of control, entering the west ditch and rolling over. Mendoza-Jaramillo was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Damage to the Mendoza-Jaramillo car was estimated at $2,000 while the Holze semi received an estimated $3,000 in damage. The accident remains under investigation.
