• Jennifer Barkalow made an initial appearance on two counts of a forgery charge, four counts of a unauthorized use of a credit card charge and a theft-fifth degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 31. Barkalow is released on her promise to appear.

• Adam Ray Bishop made an initial appearance on a assault with a dangerous weapon charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 31. Bishop is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Rachelle L. Mann, of Sacramento, Calif., made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge and on a contempt of court charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing and the contempt hearing will be heard at the same time at 3:30 p.m. on July 25. Bond for all charges combined is $10,397.50 cash only.

• Gustavo Alonso Perez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Emily Swartz is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on July 25. Perez is released on his promise to appear. If he owns or possesses any firearms or ammunition, Perez is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Breanna Ann Bly made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Bly pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Roeles Reyes Cavazos, of Toledo, made an initial appearance on warrants charging him with no insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and no valid driver’s license. Cavazos pleaded guilty to the no insurance, speeding and no driver’s license charges. The fine on the no insurance was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $402.50. On the speeding charge, the fine is $80 with a $28 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $173. The fine on the driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $335. All payments are due within 30 days.

Cavazos pleaded not guilty to the possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 2 in Magistrate Court. Cavazos is released on his promise to appear.

• Russell J. Gentry made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Aug. 9. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only on each charge.

• Jake Alan Adkins made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with contempt of court for an unpaid fine and for failure to appear for a child support recovery hearing. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing for the unpaid fine is scheduled at 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 11 and the contempt hearing for failure to appear is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10. Adkins is released on his promise to appear on the unpaid fine contempt action. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only on the failure to appear for the child support recovery hearing.

• On Tuesday, David James Lee Spencer was arrested for providing false identification information and on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Gustavo Alonso-Perez Jr. was arrested for violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Jerry Richard Jones, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South 14th Street stopped at the intersection with Iowa Avenue West when it proceeded forward colliding with the passenger side front quarter panel and front door of a car driven by Marjory Irene Haley, of Colo. Jones airbags deployed and the driver was bleeding from the wrist. Damage to the Jones pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Haley car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, an unidentified vehicle struck a legally parked car in the 200 block of North First Avenue and then drove up over the top and side of vehicle before leaving the scene. Damage to the legally parked car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Jeannette Elaine Phillips, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Nevada Street when it attempted to turn left onto the Frontage Road into the path of a car driven by Rebecca Lynn Brown, of Marshalltown, which was traveling west on Nevada Street. No injuries were reported. Phillips is cited for failure to yield upon left turn. Damage to both cars is estimated at $1,500 each.

• On Monday, a car driven by Myo Naing, of Des Moines, was westbound on East Linn Street when it entered the intersection on a red light and broad-sided a car driven by Michael Joseph Fleck, of Marshalltown, which was already in the intersection. Naing is cited for violation of a restricted permit. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Naing car was estimated at $1,000 while the Fleck car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Friday, Elizabeth Anne Snodgrass was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Tricia Ann Gohring was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-first offense.

• On Saturday, Riley Adam Hodge was arrested on a warrant.

• On Sunday, Minnie Ann Climer was arrested for possession of alcohol under legal age limit, no insurance and operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Monday, Jake Alan Oldenburger was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Thursday, July 6, a car driven by Micheal Dale Reeves, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Main Street Road when equipment on the car failed resulting in the car entering the south ditch where the driver attempted to regain access to the roadway and entered a creek where the car was disabled. No injuries were reported. Reeves was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to the Reeves car was estimated at $2,500.

• On Wednesday, July 5, a vehicle driven by Richard Thomas Jeske, of Eldora, was northbound on Canfield Avenue when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jeske vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
