• Shane Jensen made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge and an absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only on one charge and $5,000 cash only on the second charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on the absence charge for 1 p.m. on July 24. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Brian Keith Johnson, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Aug. 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Pedro Escribano, of Tama, made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a public intoxication-second offense charge, an open container charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 24. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. Upon release, Escribano will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Eleazar Cruz Lopez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a public intoxication-first offense charge. Cruz Lopez pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days. Cruz Lopez has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold on him.

• Jose Alfredo Garcia Garcia made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for an arraignment hearing. Christian Stickrod will continue as counsel. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled at 1 p.m. on July 20. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. Garcia Garcia has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold on him.

• Misty D. Johnson, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. Jeff Hazen will continue as counsel. The jury trial is rescheduled at 9 a.m. on July 20 with the pre-trial conference rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. on July 14. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Walter John Grace Jr. made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine-third or subsequent offense charge, a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a interference with official acts charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 24. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. Upon release, Grace will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Thomas James Morford made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days plus restitution if applicable. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by David Wayne Vancannon, of Marshalltown, was northbound in a alleyway in the 400 block of North 15th Avenue when it turned into a parking area and struck a legally parked Chevy Impala before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported. Vancannon was cited for leaving the scene of an accident-property damage. Damage to both cars was estimated at $1,000.
