• Paul Hopkins, of Liscomb, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Hopkins is released on his promise to appear.

• Maddux Jae Richardson made an initial appearance on a possession of a marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days. Richardson is released on his promise to appear.

• Bryan Alan Mathern, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Timothy Leavy made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Jacob John Streeter made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Streeter is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Vanessa Corine Collins, of Garwin, made an initial appearance on a eluding charge, a reckless driving charge, a leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only charge, a no insurance-accident charge, a failure to yield to an emergency vehicle charge, two counts of a failure to obey a traffic control device charge and two counts of a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Collins is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4 p.m. today and sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Tyler Slemp, of Sioux City, made an initial appearance on two counts of a theft-fifth degree charge. Slemp pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 for each charge, due within 30 days.

• Logan Andrew Calkins made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. Calkins pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Livianette Guzman Correa made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter, on two counts of a simple assault charge. Guzman Correa pleaded guilty to both charges and the fines are $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Michael Kirk Warren made an initial appearance on a littering charge. Warren pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• A 16-year-old female made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days or in lieu of the fine and surcharge, she may complete 10 hours of community service by Nov. 15 and pay $60 in court costs at that time.

• James Bullshoe made an initial appearance on a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Bullshoe pleaded guilty to both charges. On the speeding charge, the fine is $70 with a $24.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $154.50. The fine on the no driver’s license is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Luis Gonzalez Tristan made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the no insurance, the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Amber Lesmeister made an initial appearance on a permitting an unauthorized person to drive a vehicle charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine was $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due within 30 days.
