Incidents

• On Monday, an incident of fraudulent practice-second degree was reported against a customer of local bank around 3 p.m.

• On Sunday, a hit and run incident was reported around 10:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of West Lincolnway.

• On Saturday, a citizen reported a theft of a white Shimano mountain bike from a residence in the 700 block of West Main Street at 11:27 a.m.

• On Saturday, a resident reported the theft of cash in the amount of $435 from the 600 block of South Seventh Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m.

• On Saturday, a theft of a DeWalt 20 volt hammer and drill set and miscellaneous DeWalt sockets and drill bits from the 100 block of North Sixth Street was reported at approximately 7:55 p.m.

• On June 29, a person stopped at a local quick stop business reported his white 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix stolen at approximately 5:50 a.m.. The motor vehicle was valued at greater than $10,000.

Accidents

• On Sunday, a unknown driver and vehicle was eastbound on West Lincolnway when it struck a GMC Sonoma in the front yard of property in the 1600 block of West Lincolnway and then proceeded to strike the mailbox before leaving the scene. Damage to the Sonoma and mailbox was estimated at $5,200.

• On June 22, a car driven by Jose Guadalupe Ramirez Martinez, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on East Main Street when it went through a red light in an attempt to turn left onto North Third Avenue and collided with a vehicle driven by Jorge Alberto Garcia-Rodriguez, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Ramirez Martinez was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, no insurance and driving while barred. Damage to the Ramirez Martinez car was estimated at $1,500 while the Garcia-Rodriguez vehicle received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

Court

• Eric Lamont Wiley made an initial appearance on a sex offender registry violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 17. Wiley needs to be photographed and fingerprinted in connection with this charge. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• John Charles Hebert made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 2 in Magistrate Court. Breanna Nelson has been appointed as counsel. The previously posted bond will continue until the conclusion of this case.
