Tuesday

• Cody Alexander Hoover made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Hoover pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Andreas Jose Ibanez made an initial appearance on two counts of violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 in Magistrate Court. Ibanez was released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Cruz Augustine Garcia, of Le Grand, made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-first offense charge. Barry Kaplan or Aaron Vaughn will be hired as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 20 in Magistrate Court. Garcia is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Rueben Lee Hickman made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Hickman pleaded guilty. The court appointed Jeff Hazen as counsel. A sentencing hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 in Magistrate Court. Hickman is released on his promise to appear.

• Tanya Louise Bradbury, of Montour, made an initial appearance on a unauthorized use of a credit card charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. Bradbury is released on her promise to appear.

• Ulysses Adan Esquivel Vallejo made an initial appearance on a no valid driver’s license charge and a failure to file a written arraignment charge. Jeff Hazen will continue as counsel. Esquivel Vallejo pleaded guilty to the driver’s license charge and the fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due within 30 days. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 29. Esquivel Vallejo is released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Rogelio Nevarez, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South 12th Avenue when it attempted to pass around on the inside, wrong way of traffic, as a vehicle driven by Tony Newell Betts, of Marshalltown, was in the process of making a left turn which resulted in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Betts vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the Nevarez car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Ulysses Adan Esquivel-Vallejo, of Tama, was eastbound on West Anson Street when it make a left turn in front of a car driven by Eric Robert Dobbs, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Esquivel-Vallejo was cited for no valid driver’s license. Damage to the Esquivel-Vallejo car was estimated at $2,500 while the Dobbs car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.
