• Hayli Marie Stier made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance-hydrocodone-first offense charge, unlawful possession of prescription drug charge, two counts of a theft-fifth degree charge and a trespass charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 15. The court ordered Stier to be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshalltown Police Department no later than 1 p.m. on Sept. 1. Stier was released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Emmanuel Alhameed made an initial appearance on two counts of an assault displaying a dangerous weapon charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected parties.

• Justin Menees made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Jeffrey Hazen will continue a counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

• Dillon Cherokee Eagle Cook made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and a interference with official acts charge. Cook pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the theft charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75. On the interference charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Eric Grayson Sloppy made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference on a driving under suspension charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a no insurance charge and a operation without registration charge. A rocket docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 in Magistrate Court. Sloppy was released on his promise to appear.

• Keir Isaac Chol Kuc Lual, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, Aug. 23, a car driven by Otis Tarver Wood, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South First Avenue when it unlawfully passed a car driven by Aleaha Marie Taggart, of Marshalltown, sideswiping it as it made a left turn into a private driveway. No injuries were reported. Wood was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to the Wood car was estimated at $500 while the Taggart car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a car driven by Khalil Yahya, of Des Moines, was westbound on East Church Street when it attempted a left turn and sideswiped a pickup driven by Diane Loretta Cox, of Marshalltown, which was also traveling west on Church Street. No injuries were reported. Yahya was charged with no insurance and failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to the Yahya car was estimated at $1,500 while the Cox pickup received an estimated $3,000 in damage.
