• Mark Edwin Moore made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Emily Swartz is appointed as counsel. The District Associate Court will schedule the probation revocation hearing. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Johnnie Ray Cooper II made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge, a possession of a controlled substance-second offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a failure to file a written arraignment charge. Emily Swartz is appointed as counsel. The contempt and arraignment hearings will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. The preliminary hearing on the two drug charges is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8. Bond is set at $3,000 cash only and $2,000 cash or surety.

• Nathan Thomas Lucas made an initial appearance on a trespass-first offense charge and a theft-third degree charge. Aaron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Timothy J. Leavy made an initial appearance on two warrants charging him with violation of probation and a theft-fifth degree charge. Aaron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. A pre-trial conference is scheduled on the theft charge for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $4,000 cash only.

• Joseph Cady made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by Cady’s parole officer. Cady is being held without bond.

• Keyana Jade Vasquez Stabenow made an initial appearance on two counts of a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge and a identity theft charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel on the contempt charges and the contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel for the identity theft charge and the preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Laken Stepheen Schossow, of Liscomb, made an initial appearance on a no valid driver’s license charge and a driving under suspension charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 in Magistrate Court.

• Marcia Sue Harrigan made a domestic abuse assault charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18. Harrigan is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Horace Whack III made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The District Associate Court will schedule the probation revocation hearing. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Joshua Duane Janssen made a operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a possession of a controlled substance-first offense charge, an unlawful possession of a prescription drug charge and a failure to obey a stop sign charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 19. Janssen is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

•Jeremy Rhea Waltemeyer made a disorderly conduct charge and a interference with official acts charge. Waltemeyer pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the disorderly conduct charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. On the interference charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Clayton Charles Stevens made a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. Stevens pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Marcia McCrary was arrested for domestic abuse assault-first offense.

• On Tuesday, Joseph Cady was arrested for violation of parole.

• On Tuesday, Jeremy Waltemeyer was arrested for interference with official acts and disorderly conduct.

• On Tuesday, Alexis Jimenez-Diaz was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Aug. 22, Derrick Thran, 18, of Grundy Center, was arrested at the Sheriff’s Office on a Grundy County warrant charging him with failure to comply to submit fingerprints. Thran was fingerprinted and released.

• On Monday, Bobbi Weedman, 37, of Dike, was arrested at the Sheriff’s Office and charged with assault causing bodily injury. She went to court and was released.

• On Monday, Mathew Fox, 33, of Grundy Center, was arrested at the Sheriff’s Office and charged with child endangerment. He went to court and was released.

Accidents

• On Thursday, Aug. 24, a vehicle driven by Zachary Hansen, 22, Eldora, was northbound on Highway 14 when the driver fell asleep at the wheel resulting in the vehicle drifting into the southbound lane. A car driven by Taylor Happel, 21, of Waverly, took evasive action, however, the Hansen vehicle collided with Happel car, then struck a mailbox and both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Hansen was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance. Damage to the Hansen vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the Happel car received an estimated $10,000 in damage.
