• Dillon James Knight made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and two counts of a sex offender registry violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only. Upon release, Knight will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Rueben Lee Hickman made an initial appearance on a spitting in a police vehicle charge, a trespass-first offense charge, a harassment-first degree charge, a interference with official acts charge and an assault charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Dionte Bryant Trimble made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing will be set by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Jedidiah James Kea made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. Kea will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Sept. 25. Kea is released on his promise to appear. Kea has 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Sally Ann Brandmayr, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. pleaded not guilty. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is set at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 25.

• On Thursday, Sept. 7, a vehicle driven by Maricela Maravilla-Ordaz was exiting a private driveway onto South Fourth Avenue when it struck a legally parked minivan in the driver’s side rear quarter panel. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.

Accidents

• On Saturday, a car driven by Joshua Lavon Reid, of Davenport, was eastbound on Highway 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Reid swerved to avoid the animal, lost control and entered the south ditch spinning around before coming to rest. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Reid car was estimated at $3,500.

• On Sunday, Sept. 3, a car driven by James Frederick Allen, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 30 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck causing the driver to oversteer and putting the car into a spin coming to rest in the median. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Allen car was estimated at $1,900.

• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Tobias Aaron Williams, of Clutier, was eastbound on HIghway 30 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Williams vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Accidents

• On Monday, a car driven by a 17-year-old female from Waterloo was northbound on Highway 14 approximately fourth miles south of Parkersburg when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Chad Chase, 42, of Aplington. The juvenile was taken to UnityPoint Health-Allen in Waterloo. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each. The accident remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.
