• Dwayne Eugene Honbarger made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Honbarger was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4:30 p.m. today to sign a pre-trial release agreement and also go to the Marshalltown Police Department to be photographed and fingerprinted by the same time.

• Javier Carlos Contreras made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a driving while barred charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Contreras was released on his promise to appear.

• Miguel Jara Cruz made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a leaving the scene of an accident charge and a failure to obey a stop sign charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Jara Cruz was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Shalonya Meyan Diekman made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Luis Angel Pineda made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to sign a written arraignment. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The arraignment hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Clayton Gary Richard Smith made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Smith was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Kelly Marie Brown made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11. Brown was released on her promise to appear.

• A 16-year-old female made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in Magistrate Court.

• Denise Marie Means made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11. Means is released on her promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.
