Tuesday

• Shawna Lynne Groshong made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by Groshong’s parole officer. Groshong is being held without bond.

• Jorge Eduardo Gomez Chavarria made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. Jennifer Bonzer is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20. Gomez Chavarria is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Thomas Raymond Davis made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Davis pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Jonathan David Hill made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Aaron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Hill is released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Carlos Ivan Solorio Nava made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. Darrell Meyer is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Saturday, Oct. 7, a car driven by Tawny Rochelle Olson, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Ninth Avenue when it ran the stop sign at the intersection with east Anson Street and was broadsided by a car driven by Susie Arriola, of Marshalltown. Arriola and Olson were transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Olson was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way and Arriola was cited for driving under suspension and violation of a restricted license. Damages to the Arriola car was estimated at $5,000 while the Olson car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, Oct. 7, a car driven by Matthew Wayne Stilwell, of Eldora, was southbound on Highland Acres Road when it ran the stop sign at West Lincoln Way and collided with a car driven by Karen Sue Markham, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Stilwell was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $6,000 each.

• On Saturday, Sept. 30, a Dodge Durango parked in the 200 block of West State Street reported hit and run damage to the driver’s side. Damage was estimated at $3,500.

• On Sunday, Oct. 8, a car driven by Micah Jonathan Nesan Daniel, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on West Lincolnway when the driver took his eyes off of the road for a moment resulting in the car entering the ditch, striking a driveway, going airborne briefly before landing and striking a tree. Daniel was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Damage to the Daniel car was estimated at $10,000 while the tree belonging to Paul Barr received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, Oct. 8, a car driven by Kevin Dean Dougherty, of Le Grand, was westbound on Iowa Avenue East when it struck a deer that ran onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dougherty car was estimated at $3,500.

• On Sunday, Oct. 8, a car driven by Shevaun Heliana Adams-Zmolek, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Jerome Street when the driver felt something on the floor near the brake and reached for it resulting in her car striking a legally parked Ford Fusion. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Adams-Zmolek car was estimated at $1,000 while the Ford Fusion received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

• On Monday, Oct. 9, a car driven by Rocio Esmeralda Reyes, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Woodbury Street when it ran the stop sign at North 12th Avenue and collied with the rear passenger side of a car driven by Amalia Cisneros De Ramirez, of Marshalltown. The 11-year-old son of Cisneros De Ramirez complained of pain in his back and was taken to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown by a parent. Reyes was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device and no valid driver’s license. Damage to the Reyes car was estimated at $2,500 while the Cisneros De Ramirez car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Oct. 10, a Nissen Versa parked in the 300 block of South Fifth Street received hit and run damage to the driver’s side rear quarter panel and door during the overnight hours of Oct. 3. Damage to the Versa is estimated at $3,000.

Arrests

• On Monday, Thomas Raymond Davis, 70, was arrested for public intoxication-first offense.

• On Monday, Kimberly Sue Renner, 52, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

• On Monday, Shawna Lynne Groshong, 51, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Saturday, Oct. 7, a car driven by Amber Nicole Wallen, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Da,age to the Wallen car was estimated at $3,500.

• On Tuesday, Sept. 19, a pickup driven by Martin Dean Brooks, of Union, was eastbound on 190th Street near the intersection with Marsh Avenue when it ran the stop sign and entered the east ditch where it came to rest. Brooks was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown by a private individual. Damage to the Brooks car was estimated at $5,000 while the culvert in the ditch sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.
