• David Wayne Dereus Jr. made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Dereus pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 6 in Magistrate Court. Dereus is released on his promise to appear.

• Joseph Ray Perkins made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Perkins pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Terry Lee Hurley made an initial appearance on a simple domestic abuse assault charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 29. Hurley is released on his promise to appear. If he owns or possesses any firearms or ammunition, Hurley is to contact the arresting entity and schedule a time to surrender them. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Christopher Allan Skidmore made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. Skidmore pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 6 in Magistrate Court. Skidmore is released on his promise to appear.

• Kolton James Ealy made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. Ealy pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs plus a $25 civil penalty for a total of $172.75, due within 30 days.

• Kyler Doyle Ealy made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. Ealy pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs plus a $25 civil penalty for a total of $172.75, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Thursday, Nov. 2, a car driven by Harold Andrew Lathrop, 43, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on East Nevada Street when it went out of control, crossed traffic and drove onto a grassy terrace where it struck a utility pole. Lathrop fled the scene of the accident on foot. A female passenger was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown with possible injuries. Damage to the Lathrop car was estimated at $5,000 while the utility pole owned by Alliant Energy received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Marie Louise Thoms, 56, of Marshalltown, was exiting a parking spot at Hy-Vee when it collided with a car driven by Dwayne Gilbert Swenson, 58, of Marshalltown, which was driving through the lot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Thoms vehicle was estimated at $300 while the Swenson car received an estimated $1,800 in damage.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Jonathon Fugate, 25, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance and operation without registration.

• On Wednesday, Miguel Reyes Jr., 43, was arrested driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended; no valid driver’s license, no insurance and failure to maintain safety belts.

• On Wednesday, Marissa Nelson, 25, was arrested for failure to obey a flashing red light, driving under suspension, operating while under the influence-first offense, possession of marijuana-second offense and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-first offense.

• On Wednesday, Terry Hurley, 55, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-injury or mental illness-first offense.
