• Valerian Basilius made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only.

• Christian L. Fisher made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Fisher is being held without bond.

• Tyler Joe Birkness made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Birkness is being held without bond.

• Christina Louise Spencer made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge, a theft-fifth degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20. Spencer is released on her promise to appear.

• Chastity Sharona Schulmeister made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense charge and a obstruction of emergency communications charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Amanda Jean Riley made an initial appearance on four counts of a child endangerment charge, two counts of an interference with official acts charge and a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10. Bond is set at $600 cash only. No-contact orders were issued for the protected parties.

• Jasen Ralph Lucas made an initial appearance on four counts of a child endangerment charge, a interference with official acts charge and an accessory to a misdemeanor charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20. Lucas is released on his promise to appear. No-contact orders have been issued for the protected parties.

• Chad Thomas West, of Clear Lake, made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 in Magistrate Court. West is released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Cole William Welden made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Welden pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Michael Angelo Burgos Jr. made an initial appearance on a operation while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20. Burgos is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Citations

• On Tuesday, Hector Geovani Martinez-Lobo, 39, was cited for speeding.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Christina Switzer, 39, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft-fifth degree.

• On Tuesday, Philip Oetker, 54, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, , Hector Martinez-Lobo, 39, was arrested for driving while license is denied or revoked.

• On Wednesday, Amanda Riley, 30, was arrested for child endangerment, interference with official acts and on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Jasen Lucas, 38, was arrested for child endangerment, interference with official acts and accessory to a misdemeanor.

Accidents

• On Friday, Oct. 20, a vehicle driven by Khambia Joy Clarkson, 33, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Seventh Street stopped at the intersection with West State Street when it proceeded forward colliding with a pickup driven by Mark Joseph Ross, 62, of Marshalltown, which was traveling east on State Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ross pickup was estimated at $1,200 while the Clarkson vehicle received an estimated $700 in damage. Clarkson received a verbal warning due to her vision being partially obstructed.

• On Monday, a car driven by Seth Harvey Egleston, 22, of Marshalltown, southbound on Sixth Street and stopped at the intersection with Madison Street and a car driven by a 15-year-old male from Marshalltown was northbound on Sixth Street and stopped at Madison Street. Both entered the intersection at the same time believing they had the right of way which resulted in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Egleston car was estimated at $2,500 while the juvenile’s car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, a car driven by Desiree Lee Freeman, 22, of Grinnell, was northbound on South Center Street just south of LaFrentz Lane when pedestrian Helen Louise Tomlinson, 70, of Marshalltown, attempted to cross Center Street into the path of the Freeman car. Freeman managed to slow enough so that impact was minor. Tomlinson was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown.

Incidents

• On Friday, a case of vandalism was reported in Albion. Property damage was estimated at less than $200.

• On Saturday, a burglary in Melbourne was reported to the Sheriff’s Office.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Justin Lee Brite Branon, 33, was arrested on four warrants.

• On Thursday, Jessica Rae Stanton, 44, was arrested for unauthorized use of credit card with estimated theft between $1,000 -$10,000 and also on a warrant.

• On Friday, Ian Matthew Lingard, 25, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Chastity Schulmeister, 37, was arrested for obstruction of emergency communications and domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense.

• On Tuesday, Chad West, 46, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

• On Tuesday, Christian Fisher, 51, was arrested on two counts of violation of probation.

• On Tuesday, Valerian Basilius, 50, was arrested for violation of probation.

• On Tuesday, Tyler Birkness, 25, was arrested for violation of probation.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Jana Lynnelle Hechler, 36, of Ocean View, Hawaii, was southbound on Durham Avenue when it went into a curve and a deer jumped onto the roadway causing the driver to swerve, enter the ditch, come back onto the roadway and enter the south ditch where it got hung up on a culvert facing straight down. The car fell off the culvert and came to rest on its roof. No injuries were reported. Hechler was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Hechler car was estimated at $6,000.• On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Salenea Theasea Mashae Phelps, 23, of Albion, was westbound on 233rd Street traveling too fast to stop for the stop sign. The driver attempted to turn right when she saw a deer standing in the roadway, swerved to miss the deer, entered the gravel portion of the road, came up off the embankment on the south side of the intersection and continued south until it came to rest. No injuries were reported. Phelps was cited for driving under suspension, failure to maintain control and failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Phelps vehicle was estimated at $6,500.

• On Wednesday, a minivan driven by Derek Lee Spinks, 29, of Toledo, was southbound on Highway 14 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Spinks minivan was estimated at $3,000.

• On Wednesday, a pickup driven by John David Witte, 49, of St. Anthony, was southbound on Eastman Avenue when it struck a black Angus cow in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Witte pickup was estimated at $9,000 while the cow owned by Jay Lorenz Klemme loss was estimated at $1,800.

• On Thursday, , a vehicle driven by Magdaleno Rodriguez-Mendoza, 30, of Liscomb, was westbound on 160th Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rodriguez-Mendoza vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

• On Friday, a minivan driven by Kelly May Koster, 38, of Le Grand, was northbound on Zeller Avenue attempting to enter the Highway 30 on ramp when it crossed the path of a car driven by Robin Jean Richardson, 51, of Marshalltown, causing the car to take evasive action to avoid collision. The Richardson car drove off the roadway, striking a road sign and came to stop on a ditch embankment. Koster was cited for failure to yield upon left turn and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Richardson car was estimated at $1,500 while the road sign received an estimated $100 in damage.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Lansana Moriba Mohr, 21, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Smith Avenue when it went out of control on the gravel portion of the road, swerved and ultimately left the roadway to the right, struck the opposite side of the ditch and went onto its right side where it went sliding onto property owned by the Izaak Walton League damaging signs and fence. No injuries were reported. Mohr was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Mohr car was estimated at $6,000 while the Izaak Walton League sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, a van driven by Karl Alfred Winkler, 55, of Nevada, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Winkler van was estimated at $5,000.
