• Justin Alan Hartwig made an initial appearance on a ongoing criminal conduct charge, a theft-second degree charge, an unauthorized use of a credit card charge, an identity theft charge, a burglary-third degree charge, a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, an eluding charge, a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, three counts of a failure to obey a stop sign/yield the right of way charge, a stopping on the traveled portion of the roadway charge, a no insurance charge, a speeding charge, two counts of failure to obey a stop sign charge and an open container charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 11. Bond total for all charges is $25,000 cash or surety.

• Ulises Legorreta Chavez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a possession of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture or deliver charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 11. Bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety. Chavez is also under an Immigration and Custom Enforcement hold. Upon release, Chavez is instructed to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

• Daniel Branon made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by an administrative judge. Branon is being held without bond.

• Randal Anthony Roberts made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Darrell Meyer is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by an administrative judge. Roberts is being held without bond.

• Aaron L. Ditmarson made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a sentencing hearing. Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The sentencing hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Lorrie Ann Bartlett made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 21. Bartlett is released with supervision through Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4:30 p.m. to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Santiago Hidalgo-Ontiveros made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 21. Hidalgo-Ontiveros is released on his promise to appear.

• Tierra Renea Medlock made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $722.50, due within 30 days.

• Randy Hinders made an initial appearance on a no insurance-accident charge and a striking an unattended vehicle charge. Hinders pleaded guilty to both charges. On the no insurance charge the fine is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. The fine on the striking an unattended vehicle is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Kevin K. Kroeger made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Jennifer Bonzer will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court.

• Oracio Macias made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A rocket docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 26, 2018, in Magistrate Court.

• Beth Ann Moore made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus-first offense charge. Moore pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 in Magistrate Court.

• Jasmine Kincade made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a jury trial charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. The District Associate Court will reschedule the jury trial. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Justin Hartwig, 38, was arrested for open container, stopped on the traveled portion of the highway, speeding, no insurance, five counts of failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way, possession of drug paraphernalia, eluding-speed over 25 over limit, possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense, criminal mischief-fifth degree, attempted burglary-third degree and identity theft.

• On Thursday, Santiago Hidalgo-Ontiveros, 49, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Thursday, Shawn Fleming, 54, was arrested for operating while under the influence-second offense.

Nov. 20

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire at 8 Santa Barbara Drive, a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 100 block of West State Street, an extrication of victims from vehicle on South Third Street and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 605 Thunderbird Drive, 3202 S.12th St., and 1301 Summit St.,

Nov. 21

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 307 W. Nevada St., an oil or other combustible liquid spill on Center Street and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: Boone Street, 1211 W. State St., 309 N. 13th Ave., and 309 N. First St.

Nov. 22

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 610 W. State St., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 101 NewCastle Road, 805 E. State St., 610 W. State St., 403 E. Southridge Road, 610 W. State St., and 212 N. Seventh St.

Nov. 23

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 111 W. Webster St., a smoke scare of odor of smoke at 713 N. Fourth Ave., two extrication of victims from vehicle on West Iowa Avenue and 1008 E. State St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2006 Skyline Drive, 606 E. Boone St., 903 N. Fourth Ave., and 1200 W. Church St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a service call to 900 S. Sixth St., and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 22 N. Center St., 1211 W. State St., 303 S. First St., 1601 Marion St., 603 Lee St., 1008 E. State St., and 2103 S. Fifth St.

Nov. 25

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a system malfunction at 1005 Lincolnway, a dispatched/cancelled en route to Highway 14, three outside rubbish fires at: 2103 S. Sixth St., 110 W. Meadow Lane, and 10 E. Grant St., and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2301 Sugar Lane, 411 Lee St., 311 W. Nevada St., 1308 E. State St., 1 W. Grant St., 1301 Summit St., 1004 May St., and 22 N. Center St.

Nov. 26

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 1606 W. Church St., and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 701 N. Fourth St., 504 W. Church St., 533 N. Third St., 1704 S. Fifth St., 109 N. Third St., 306 1/2 Bromley St., 209 N. First St., 9 N. 10th St., and 402 N. Second Ave.

Arrests

• On Friday, Nov. 17, Bradley Wolf, 22, of Waterloo, was arrested in Reinbeck, on a Black Hawk County warrant charging him with contempt of court. Wolf was released to Black Hawk County authorities.

• On Saturday, Nov. 18, James Eckheart, 34, of Beaman, was arrested in Beaman and charged with violation of a no-contact order. Eckheart posted bond and was released.

Accidents

• On Thursday, Nov. 16, a car driven by Ashley Crane, 34, of Wellsburg, was westbound on Highway 20 when the driver swerved to miss a deer in the roadway, lost control and entered the north ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its wheels. No injuries were reported. Crane was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to maintain or use seat belts while passenger Bruce Kohlmeyer was cited for failure to maintain or use seat belts. Damage to the Crane car was estimated at $4,000.• On Thursday, Nov. 30, a vehicle driven by Teresa Barnes, 38, of Ackley, was northbound on 170th Street and turning onto B Avenue when the driver missed the turn and dropped off into the north ditch where the vehicle came to rest on its side. Barnes was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Barnes vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

• On Friday, Nov. 17, a vehicle driven by James Krough, 29, of Alden, was eastbound on 290th Street when the tire dropped off onto the shoulder, the vehicle struck a field drive, went out of control and entered the south ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its wheels. No injuries were reported. Krough was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Krough vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 21, a vehicle driven by Mary Venenga, 18, of Dike, was northbound on T-55 at the intersection with HIghway 175 when the drive proceeded forward into the path of a car driven by Nicole Tamminga, 28, of Reinbeck, resulting in a collision. Minor injuries were reported. Venenga was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way while Tamminga was cited for operation without registration. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.
