• Richard Lee Shogren made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with domestic abuse assault-second offense. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 21. Shogren is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by the end of work today and sign a pre-trial release agreement. The court ordered Shogren to be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshalltown Police Station by the end of the week in connection with this case. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.
• Jacqueline June Alman made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, an operation without registration charge and a no insurance charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 22. Alman is released on her promise to appear.
• Sergio Vences (Gomez), of State Center, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Mary Cowdrey filed an appearance as counsel. Judgment has been deferred with instructions for Vences to complete community service hours, pay restitution and obey all laws during the next six month period. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on June 6, 2018, in Magistrate Court.

• On Saturday, Dec. 2, a case of criminal mischief and burglary was reported in the 800 block of South 12th Street.
• On Monday, Dec. 4, a case of trespass and criminal mischief was reported in the 1000 block of Fremont Street.

Accidents
• On Thursday, Nov. 30, a minivan driven by Jerry Lee Gummert, 79, of Marshalltown, was exiting the McFarland Clinic-downtown parking lot onto South Third Avenue when he pulled out and collided with a car driven by Margaret Katherine Simmons, 74, of Marshalltown, which was northbound on Third Avenue. No injuries were reported. Gummert was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Gummert minivan was estimated at $1,000 while the Simmons car received an estimated $3,500 in damage.
• On Saturday, Dec. 2, a vehicle driven by Ruth Ramirez, 29, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Sixth Street when it collided with the rear of a trailer being pulled by a pickup driven by Roseann Lea Nymeyer, 59, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Ramirez was cited for no insurance and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Ramirez vehicle was estimated at $1,800 while the Nymeyer pick and trailer sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage.
• On Sunday, Dec. 3, a car driven by Barbara Jean Eggers, 66, of Gladbrook, was exiting a private driveway to the left onto South Center Street when it was broadsided by a car driven by Laurie Ann Halbig, 52, of Toledo, which was northbound on South Center Street. No injuries were reported. Eggers was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to the Eggers car was estimated at $3,500 while the Halbig car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.
• On Sunday, Dec. 3, a pickup driven by Merle Eugene Wallen, 75, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Center Street when it ran a red light at the intersection with Southridge Road and collided with a car driven by Jamey Ryan Overton, 36, of West Des Moines, which was in the process of making a left turn off of Southridge Road. No injuries were reported. Wallen was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Wallen pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Overton car received an estimated $3,500 in damage.
• On Monday, Dec. 4, a school bus driven by Michael Joseph Cronin, 54, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Boone Street stopped at the intersection with South Ninth Street and when it proceeded forward it collided with the driver’s side rear wheel area of a vehicle driven by Karen Ruth Weltzin, 76, of Marshalltown, which was traveling south through the intersection. Weltzin was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Cronin was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the school bus was estimated at $1,000 while the Weltzin vehicle received an estimated $3,000 in damage.
• On Monday, Dec. 4, a minivan driven by Haley Morgan Nissen, 35, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South 10th Avenue stopped at the intersection with East Anson Street when it proceeded to turn left onto Anson Street and collided with a car driven by Tara Lee Ulery, 45, of Le Grand, which was eastbound on Anson. No injuries were reported. No citations given because parked cars obstructed the view of Nissen. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000.

• On Friday, Dec. 1, Vikki Frye, 57, was arrested for operating while under the influence-first offense, interference with official acts and open container.
• On Friday, Dec. 1, Jeffrey Smith, 50, was arrested for theft-first degree and ongoing criminal conduct.
• On Sunday, Dec. 3, Pedro Manzano-Cervantes, 38, was arrested for no valid driver’s license and no insurance.
• On Saturday, Dec. 2, Keene Dunham, 41, was arrested for speeding and operating under the influence-first offense.
• On Monday, Dec. 4, Richard Shogren, 32, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-second offense.
