Accidents

• On Saturday, Dec. 30, a Jeep driven by Timothy M. Hague, 61, of Hebron, Conn., was northbound on South Center Street when it entered the intersection on a red light and broadsided a USPS mail truck driven by David Douglas Schmitt, 54, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hague Jeep was estimated at $4,000 while the mail truck sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, Dec. 31, a car driven by Wendy Lane Millikan, 30, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Center Street approaching Westwood Drive when the driver didn’t adjust for traffic proceeding forward from a red light and collided with the rear of a car driven by Daniel Leslie Lenning, 54, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Millikan car was estimated at $2,500 while the Lenning car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, Jan. 3, a vehicle driven by Brent Edward Thoms, 35, of Marshalltown, was southbound in the 700 block of South Sixth Street when the driver applied the brakes and the vehicle began sliding, due to the snow packed roads, until it struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Thoms vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

• On Wednesday, Jan. 3, a car driven by Miranda Ann Yoemans, 32, of Marshalltown, was westbound in the 1200 block of West State Street when it started sliding down the hill, through the stop sign and into the path of a pickup driven by Stacy Elizabeth Merfeld, 44, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Yoemans car was estimated at $3,000 while the Merfeld pickup received an estimated $3,500 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a car driven by Kinzi Kae Mueller, 24, of Kellogg, was northbound on South Center Street approaching South Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Jacqueline Mora-Starits, 22, of Marshalltown, which was stopped for a red light. No injuries were reported. Mueller was cited for no insurance-accident and failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Mueller car was estimated at $4,500 while the Mora-Starits vehicle received an estimated $1,000.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a car driven by a 17-year-old male from Marshalltown was eastbound on East Olive Street attempting to turn right onto Rainbow Drive when he lost control and struck the stop sign before leaving the scene. A witness described the car to the police and they were able to locate it at a nearby residence. No injuries were reported. The juvenile was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the car was estimated at $1,500 while the stop sign received an estimated $200 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a vehicle driven by Shana Lynnette Schneider, 32, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Third Avenue when the driver lost control and collided with a vehicle driven by Maria Elena Chavez, 46, of Marshalltown, which was stopped at the stop sign. No injuries were reported. Chavez was cited for no insurance. Damage to the Schneider vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the Chavez vehicle received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a vehicle driven by Nicole Renee Stevenson, 34, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Jerome Street preparing to make a right turn onto Mallory Drive when the vehicle started to slide down the slight decline, due to the snowy conditions, until it struck a utility pole on the corner. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Stevenson vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the utility pole received an estimated $50 in damage.

• On Monday, Jan. 1, a car driven by Brenda Nazira Backoff, 39, of Marshalltown, was westbound on West Main Street when it struck a bike lane and no parking sign in the 2300 block of West Main Street and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Backoff was cited for striking fixtures on a highway, failure to maintain control and no insurance. Damage to the Backoff car was estimated at $1,000 while the street signs received an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Sunday, Dec. 31, a vehicle driven by Than Toe Naing, 33, of Marshalltown, was northbound on North Third Avenue attempting to turn right onto Swayze Street when it struck a stop sign, then a mail box and finally Haley’s Deli before coming to a stop in the 500 block of North Third Avenue. A female passenger was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown with a laceration above her eye. Damage to the Naing vehicle was estimated at $12,000 while the stop sign received an estimated $500 in damage, the mail box an estimated $1,000 in damage and Haley’s Deli an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Saturday, Dec. 30, a vehicle driven by Gregory Allen Benscoter, 67, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Iowa Avenue when it ran a red light and collided with a car driven by Esther Ruth Buffalo, 77, of Tama. No injuries were reported. Benscoter was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device and operation without registration. Damage to the Benscoter vehicle was estimated at $500 while the Buffalo car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, Dec. 30, a pickup driven by Kyle Joseph Schaper, 18, of State Center, was plowing the driveway at Supershine Carwash and as it backed up a pickup driven by Victor Manuel Cisneros Bravo, 51, of Marshalltown, entered the driveway from Iowa Avenue and the Schaper pickup backed into it. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Schaper pickup was estimated at $500 while the Cisneros Bravo pickup received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, Dec. 30, a van driven by Kris Ryan Veatch, 45, of Des Moines, was northbound on South Third Avenue attempting a left turn when it collided head on with a vehicle driven by Ruach Pal Jioklow, 36, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Veatch was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn and Jioklow was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

Incidents

• On Monday, Jan. 1, two residents of Rhodes reported burglaries to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

• On Wednesday, Dec. 27, a theft valued at under $200 was reported in Melbourne.

• On Tuesday, Dec. 26, an incident of vandalism to property was reported to the Marshall County Sheriff.

• On Wednesday, Jan. 3, Martin Leon-Morales, 36, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Friday, Dec. 29, a car driven by Sean Patrick Debose Jr., 23, of Maple Heights, Ohio, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it went out of control on the snow-covered roadway and slid into the south ditch where it stuck a reflector post. No injuries were reported. Debose was cited for no insurance-accident and failure to have a valid driver’s license. Damage to the Debose car was estimated at $1,700.

• On Friday, Dec. 29, a car driven by Gaylord Clarence Hrubes, 61, of Urbana, was westbound on the off ramp from highway 30 to Highway 330 when the driver attempted to stop the car slid into the path of northbound traffic on Highway 330 colliding with a car driven by Arnulfo Alvarado Rivera, 32, of Des Moines. No injuries were reported. Hrubes was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Hrubes car was estimated at $1,700 while the Alvarado Rivera car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Saturday, Dec. 30, a car driven by Sandra Kay Walker, 65, of Haverhill, was southbound on Reed Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Da,age to the Walker car was estimated at $2,500.
