• Joshua Robert Richard Jamell made an initial appearance on a theft-first degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 1. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

• Joseph Jeffery Chapman made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, an unlawful possession of a prescription drug charge and on a warrant charging hin with forgery and theft-third degree. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 1. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that Chapman be photographed and fingerprinted in connection with these charges.

• Gerald R. Vannoller made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the driving charge is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 1. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond on this is $1,000 cash or surety. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Nicole Athena Hopkins made an initial appearance on a possession of an offensive weapon charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Hopkins is released on her promise to appear.

• Scott Edward Mills Jr. made an initial appearance on a possession of an offensive weapon charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Mills is released on his promise to appear.

• Donald Wayne Daniel made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Daniel is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Andreas Jose Ibanez made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 2 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Brooke Rena Kadner made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fourth degree charge. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Kadner is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Yosief Tsegezeab Gebrezghabihir made an initial appearance on a harassment-third degree charge. Bond is set at $300 cash or surety. Gebrezghabihir will be seen again tomorrow morning to answer Magistrate’s questions.

• Cristina Elizabeth Williams made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Williams is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Maria Calderon made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Calderon pleaded not guilty. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Magistrate Court.

• Derek Ray Edwards made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge. Edwards pleaded not guilty. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Magistrate Court.

• Sarai Romero Hernandez made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a no seatbelt charge and a failure to maintain control charge. Aron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 9. Hernandez is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Lilia Rodriguez Meza made an initial appearance on an improper use of lanes charge. Rodriguez Meza pleaded not guilty. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Magistrate Court.

• Lori Michelle Shukers made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge and a no vaccination for animal charge. Shukers pleaded guilty to both charges and the fines are $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 on each charge, due within 30 days.

• Alesha Michelle Johnson made an initial appearance on a striking unattended vehicle charge. Johnson pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• A 16-year-old male made an initial appearance on a reckless driving charge. The juvenile pleaded not guilty and a pretrial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Magistrate Court.

• James Swanson made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. Swanson pleaded not guilty. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21in Magistrate Court.

• Imonheneder Toe made an initial appearance on a no valid driver’s license charge. Toe pleaded guilty and the fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due within 30 days.

• Carlita Witte made an initial appearance on a truancy violation charge. Witta pleaded not guilty. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on April 11 in Magistrate Court.

Incidents

• On Saturday, three cases of vandalism valued between $500-$1,000 each were reported in the 1500 block of West State Street.

• On Saturday, a theft was reported in the 800 block of South Third Avenue.

• On Sunday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 600 block of East South Street.

• On Saturday, Feb. 17, Joseph Chapman, 35, was arrested for possession of controlled substance-third or subsequent offense, theft-third degree, identity theft, forgery and unlawful possession of prescription drug.

Accidents

• On Saturday, a minivan driven by Joel Bakafuela Dubilo, 18, of Ames, was legally parked and when it attempted to enter the roadway it collided with a car driven by David Bawi Than Thang, 22, of Marshalltown, which was eastbound in the 500 block of East State Street. No injuries were reported. Dubilo was cited for no insurance-accident and failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Dubilo minivan was estimated at $1,500 while the Thang car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

• On Monday, a car driven by Cristina Elizabeth Williams, 27, of Marshalltown, ended an argument with her boyfriend by using her car to push his Dodge Charger into the garage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Williams car is estimated at $1,500 while the Dodge Charger and garage each received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

• On Friday, Zachary Douglas Anderson, 30, was arrested for reckless driving, driving while barred, domestic abuse assault-injury or mental illness-first offense and child endangerment-no injury.

• On Friday, Timothy Glen Nichols, 47, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Ethan Ackerman, 23, was arrested theft-fifth degree.

• On Friday, Shelby Thompson, 30, was arrested on a warrant charging her with unlawful possession of a prescription drug.• On Sunday, Feb. 18, Brooke Kadner, 20, was arrested for criminal mischief-fourth degree.

• On Saturday, Alfonso Chavez-Torres, 34, was arrested for criminal mischief-second degree and domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood causing bodily injury.

• On Saturday, Michael Robinson, 35, was arrested for contempt of court-resisting order or process of Magistrate Court.
