Thursday

• Nicole A. Gummert made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a sentencing hearing. Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The sentencing hearing will be rescheduled for 3 p.m. on March 21. Before that deadline Gummert must complete her substance abuse evaluation. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Elijah West made an initial appearance on a speeding charge and a no insurance charge. West pleaded not guilty to the speeding charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Magistrate Court. The no insurance charge was dismissed when proof of insurance was presented with court costs of $60 assessed, due within 30 days.

• Shelby Peak made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. on April 25 in Magistrate Court. Peak was released on her promise to appear.

• Jermaine Archie Oden made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 5. There was a photograph and fingerprint order issued for an unrelated case to be completed by the end of the day on Feb. 23 at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

• On Tuesday, a theft was reported in the 100 block of South Third Avenue.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Courtney Powers, 18, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of blood or air.

• On Tuesday, Shania Kapayou, 21, was arrested for ongoing criminal conduct, forgery and theft-third degree.

• On Tuesday, Joshua Riedle, 34, was arrested for theft-fifth degree-shoplifting.

• On Tuesday, Jessica Smith, 37, was arrested for driving while barred.

• On Tuesday, Carlos Davila-Romero, 34, was arrested for contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order.

Accidents

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Lynnette Sue Vollers, 58, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on West Madison Street and a vehicle driven by Cynthia Diane Upah, 52, of Hartwick, was southbound on South Third Street when they both entered the intersection at the same time resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $800 each.

• On Tuesday, a minivan driven by Victor Andres Gonzalez, 39, of Marshalltown, was turning left from West Ingledue into his driveway when it collided with a vehicle driven by Jack Delmar Flater, 77, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Flater vehicle was estimated at $10,000 while the Gonzalez minivan received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Richard Louis Sweet, 42, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Friday, Feb. 9, a pickup driven by Larry Kenneth Plum, 60, of Montour, was northbound on Franklin Street in Le Grand and when it attempted to turn east onto Fremont Street the driver lost control striking the stop sign and coming to rest stuck in the ditch. No injuries were reported. Plum was cited for operating while intoxicated-first offense, no insurance-accident and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Plum pickup was estimated at $5,000 while the street sign received an estimated $200 in damage.

• On Friday, Feb. 9, a vehicle driven by Michael Perry Smith, 20, of Cedar Rapids, was northbound on Highway 330 near the intersection with Ingram Avenue when it went out of control, entered the median sliding sideways and struck a Do Not Enter sign causing disabling damage to the driver’s side rear. No injuries were reported. Smith was cited for driving under suspension, no valid driver’s license, failure to maintain control and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Smith vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the sign received an estimated $400 in damage.

• On Saturday, Feb. 10, a vehicle driven by Kassadie Marie McCargar, 21, of Des Moines, was westbound on the off ramp from Highway 30 to Highway 330 when it lost traction at the stop sign and slid into the passenger front tire of a pickup driven by Darren Alan Page, 52, of Des Moines, which was northbound on Highway 330. No injuries were reported. McCargar was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the McCargar vehicle was estimated at $20,000 while the Page pickup received an estimated $10,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, Feb. 11, a car driven by Mathew Jay Cook, 21, of Haverhill, was southbound on Highway 14 when it slid into the rear of a snowplow driven by Emerson Doyle Fritz, 22, of Muscatine, as it slowed to turn onto 250th Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Cook car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Tuesday, Feb. 13, a minivan driven by Donald Edward Horras, 77, of Knoxville, was southbound on Reed Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Horras minivan was estimated at $5,000.

Feb. 12

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a system malfunction at 505 W. Ingledue St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1402 S. Center St., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 5 N. Eighth St., 605 Thunderbird Drive, 404 N. 16th St., 407 N. Third Ave., 202 S. Third Ave., and 105 1/2 W. Grant St.

Feb. 13

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke or odor removal at 533 N. Third St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 810 W. Lincoln Way, 408 N. 13th Ave., 206 W. Grant St., 507 W. Southridge Road, and 1410 W. Linn St.

Feb. 14

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident at the intersection of Center Street and South Street, a special type of incident at 2510 S. Sixth St., a vehicle accident-general clean up at the intersection of East High Street and South Second Street, and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 207 NewCastle Road, 703 E. State St., 511 N. 12th Ave., 1211 W. State St., 510 Thomas Drive, 404 N. Third Ave., 211 W. Church St., and 107 N. 11th St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation due to a malfunction at 107 W. State St., two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 610 W. State St., and 202 S. Third Ave., and 10 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 107 W. State St., 108 S. Third St., 1311 W. Boone St., 2704 Nelson Road, 101 S. 29th St., 10 E. Grant St., 515 E. Olive St., 1606 W. Lincoln Way, 408 W. High St., and 1211 W. State St.

Feb. 18

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 203 E. Lincoln St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 120 S. 10th St., 1315 W. Church St., 807 W. Linn St., and 111 N. 10 St.

Feb. 16

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a service call to 9 N. Fourth Ave., two dispatched/cancelled en routes to 106 S. First St., and 602 N. First Ave., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 122 W. Main St., 1211 W. State St., 2109 S. Fifth St., and 407 W. Church St.

Feb. 17

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident-no injuries on South Center Street, a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 511 E. Church St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 401 W. South St., 10 E. Grant St., and 204 N. Seventh St.
