• Jayde Alan Eugene Stansberry, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver charge, a driving while barred charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 30. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety. Upon release, Stansberry will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Joshua Robert Richard Jamell made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Jamell will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on April 9. Jamell was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Ian Matthew Lingard, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Lingard pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due within 30 days.

• Shawntale Marie Wood made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• George Don Biggs Jr. made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Biggs is being held without bond.

• Steven Ray Nelson made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Aron Vaughn will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Lacey Marie Nerness, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a operation while intoxicated-first offense charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on April 9. Nerness was released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Byron Barker made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for an arraignment hearing. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel and Barker is ordered to contact him within 48 hours. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled for 4 p.m on March 26. Barker was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 24 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Michael Anthony Morales made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on April 6. Morales was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Patrick Scott Sharp made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Sharp pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due within 30 days.

• Hanna Ranney Sorenson made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a possession of marijuana-second offense charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no insurance charge. Darrell Meyer was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 6. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Pauline Sue Strait made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-forth degree charge. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on April 9. Strait was released on her promise to appear.

Incidents

• On Tuesday, March 20, a case of vandalism to property was reported in the 1300 block of Greenfield Drive.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, March 20, Sean Shickell, 28, was arrested on a warrant from another county.

• On Tuesday, March 20, Lacey Nerness, 35, was arrested for operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Tuesday, March 20, Anthony Straley, 44, was arrested for theft-fifth degree.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, March 20, a cargo van driven by Anthony James Wixom, 20, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Madison Street in the left lane indicating it would turn left and the driver changed his mind and turned right from the left lane crossing the path of a car driven by Taylor Dawn Lynch, 25, of Marshalltown, resulting in the Lynch car colliding with the passenger side of the cargo van. No injuries were reported. Wixom was cited for turning at the intersection violation. Damage to the Wixom cargo van was estimated at $4,000 while the Lynch car received an estimated $5,000 in damage.
