Court – Monday

• Virginia Maureen Purk made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on April 30. Purk is being held without bond.

• Daniel Wilford Garr made an initial appearance on two counts a probation violation charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $4,000 cash or surety.

• Josue Jiovanni Ortiz made an initial appearance on an eluding charge, an operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a driving under suspension charge, a leaving the scene of an accident charge, a striking an unattended vehicle charge, a reckless driving charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 11. Ortiz is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to reprot to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Joshua Dean Forrester made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 23 in Magistrate Court. Merrill Swartz is appointed as counsel. Forrester is released on his promise to appear.

• Ryan Snyder made an initial appearance on three counts of a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Tiffany Ann Davis made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Davis is released on her promise to appear.

• Elise Christine Hoop made an initial appearance on two counts of a no proof of vaccination charge and two counts of a dog at large charge. Hoop pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 23 in Magistrate Court.

• Thomas Lopez made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 11. Lopez is released on his promise to appear.

• Mary Frances McCord made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 23 in Magistrate Court. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. McCord is released on her promise to appear.

• Daesha Samone Underhill made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in an assured, clear distance charge and a use of an electronic communication device charge. Underhill pleaded guilty to both charges. On the failure to stop charge, the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $152.75. The fine on the communication device charge is $30 with a $10 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $105, due within 30 days.

• On Friday, a theft from a motor vehicle was reported in the 300 block of West South Street.

• On Friday, a theft-fifth degree was reported in the 300 block of Iowa Avenue East.

• On Saturday, vandalism to property was reported in the 200 block of Glenda Drive.

• On Saturday, a burglary-third degree was reported in the 200 block of North Eighth Street.

• On Saturday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 300 block of North 12th Avenue.

Accidents

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Karena Lynn Shuckahosee, 50, of Montour, was northbound on South Center Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Cherie Michelle Wacha, 48, which was stopped at Hibbs Boulevard. No injuries were reported. Shuckahosee was cited for following too closely. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,400 each.

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Koni Jayne Bunse, 63, of Newton, was westbound on West Church Street when the driver attempted to make a left turn crossing the path of a car driven by Dana Jo Bolles, 24, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Bunse was cited for improper use of lanes. Damage to the Bunse vehicle was estimated at $700 while the Bolles car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Helen Marie Sumpter, 78, of Montour, was westbound on East Anson Street when it ran a red light at South First Avenue as a car driven by Beverly Jean Edie, 72. of Marshalltown, was exiting the Hy-Vee parking lot and a collision occurred. No injuries were reported. Sumpter was cited for failure to respond to a steady red light. Damage to the Sumpter vehicle was estimated at $3,500 while the Edie car received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

• On Friday, a car driven by Tkaw Paw, 26, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Westwood Drive approaching Sixth Street when it went through the stop sign, tried to turn left, collided with a pickup driven by Shawn Edward Anderson, 34, of Marshalltown, and ran over the curb and a center turn traffic lane sign before coming to rest. It was confirmed that Paw’s brakes were completely out of working condition. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Paw car was estimated at $2,000 while the Anderson pickup received an estimated $600 in damage and the street sign an estimated $25 in damage.
