• Lucas Michael Catherwood made an initial appearance on three counts of a probation violation charge, a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge and an absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the two new charges is set at 1 p.m. on June 22. The probation revocation hearings will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Catherwood is being held without bond. Upon release, Catherwood will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Zachary Lee Bowers made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on July 9. Bowers is being held without bond.

• Michael D. Gerrish made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearings will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Fernando Ervin Cole made an initial appearance on a trespass-first offense charge and a harassment-second degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on July 2. Cole is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Alexia Elizabeth Arreola Arevalo made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. Arreola Arevalo pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs plus a $25 civil penalty for a total of $172.75, due by July 31.

• Amber Hinegardner made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The contempt hearing is set at 9:30 a.m. on June 22. Hinegardner is released on her promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Richard Donald Clark made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge and a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on July 2. Clark is released on his promise to appear. Clark will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Robert Steven Sanders made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a pre-trial conference, on a warrant charging him with pre-trial release violation and on a new charge of possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense. Jennie Wilson-Moore will continue as counsel for the pre-trial conference charge. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. Chad Frese will continue as counsel on the pre-trial release violation. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only. A new pre-trial conference is scheduled at 1:30 on July 13 and the new trial date is 1 p.m. on July 19.The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel on the drug charge. The preliminary hearing on this is at 1 p.m. on June 23. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered to be completed upon release and Sanders will have 60 days to get it filed with the court.

• Randall Joseph Murrieta made an initial appearance on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for a pre-trial conference and on a new charge of possession of marijuana-first offense. Aron Vaughn will continue as counsel on the pre-trial conference. A new pre-trial conference is set at 1:30 p.m. on July 13 with the trial rescheduled at 9 a.m. on July 19. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. A preliminary hearing on the marijuana charge is set at 1 p.m. on June 23. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Lucia Silva Olivares made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a warrant charging her with contempt of court. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 20 in Magistrate Court. The court lifted the warrant and released Olivares on her promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jessica R. Schossow made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. Schossow pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 25 in Magistrate Court.

• Fredrick Douglas Crawford, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an arraignment charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The arraignment hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court and the possession of drug paraphernalia will be continued with the arraignment. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Nickolas Jay Murty, of Chelsea, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree. Murty pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due by July 31.

• Brandon Dean Thiesse made an initial appearance through counsel John Spellman on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway charge, a driving while barred charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a no interlock device charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 29. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• On Wednesday, a theft was reported in the 3000 block of South Center Street.

• On Tuesday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 400 block of Woodbury Street.

• On Wednesday, Michael Gerrish, 50, was arrested for probation violation.

• On Tuesday, Randall Murrieta, 33, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Fernando Cole, 20, was arrested for harassment-second degree and trespass.

• On Tuesday, Preston Eygabroad, 20, was arrested for driving under suspension and driving while barred.

• On Tuesday, June 12, Jaramie Trumbo, 37, was arrested for harassment by personal contact.

• On Tuesday, Lucas Catherwood, 22, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense and on warrants.

• On Tuesday, Robert Sanders, 34, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense.

• On Tuesday, Donald Hall, 33, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while barred-habitual offender.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Richard Clark, 55, was arrested for possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense, fraudulent use of registration and operating while under the influence-first offense.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Ashley Nichole Marie Thomas, 26, of Garwin, was westbound on the Garwin Road when a deer jumped onto the roadway hitting the driver’s side door, mirror, back door and quarter panel. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Thomas car was estimated at $3,000.

• On Saturday, June 2, a vehicle driven by Gerald Floyd Helbing, 55, of Dubuque, was northbound on Zeller Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Helbing vehicle was estimated at $4,000.
