• Kristina Marie Downs made an initial appearance on a forgery charge, a unlawful use of a credit card charge and a theft-fourth degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 29. Bond is set at $7,000 cash or surety.

• Kelly Gene Sharer made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 10. Sharer is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Amanda Jean Riley made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a no insurance charge, a no registration charge, a speeding charge and a littering charge. Riley pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving under suspension and no insurance charges the fines are $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each charge. The fine on the no valid driver’s license is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. On the speeding charge the fine is $40 with a $14 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $114. The fine on the no registration card is $20 with a $7 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $87. On the littering charge the fine is $70 with a $24.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $154.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Michael Kellett made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the parole board and an Administrative Court judge. Kellett is being held without bond.

• Eddie Lee Holmes made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and an assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 10. Holmes is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Gerald McCann made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. The case was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed after proof of insurance was produced.

• Kristopher Raul Gardea made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge and a harassment-second degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 10. Gardea is released on his promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Mason Lee Tubby made an initial appearance through a sign language interpreter on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 10. Tubby is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jorge Oscar Sanchez Vasquez made an initial appearance on a selling alcohol after hours charge. Sanchez Vasquez pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 18 in Magistrate Court.

• Jesus A. Santacruz Renteria made an initial appearance on a dark windows charge. Santacruz Renteria pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 18 in Magistrate Court.

• On Monday, two thefts valued between $1,000 – $10,000 were reported in Melbourne.

• On Wednesday, a burglary and criminal mischief with damage valued between $1,000 – $10,000 was reported to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Michael Dean Kellett, 26, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, June 12, a car driven by Tyler Dale Walz, 24, of Tama, was eastbound on 240th Street when the driver lost control, drove through the median and entered westbound traffic where it traveled 369.2 feet before colliding with the front of a pickup driven by June Marguerite Gross, 62, of Colo. Gross was transported to UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. Walz was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $15,000 each.

• On Thursday, June 7, a vehicle driven by Brooke Allison Johnson, 24, of Eldora, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Johnson was cited for driving with an expired license. Damage to the Johnson vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

• On Sunday, June 3, a pickup driven by Brandon Dean Thiesse, 22, of Des Moines, was southbound on Marsh Avenue when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Lance Clarence Hauser, 31, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Thiesse was cited for operating while intoxicated-second offense, operating without interlock device, driving while barred and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $10,000 each.
