• Daniel Dion Scates made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is scheduled at 9 a.m. on July 31. Scates is being held without bond.

• Anthony Scott Powell made an initial appearance on a forgery charge and an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 20. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Matthew Barber made an initial appearance on two counts of violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Michael Marquess is appointe as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Barber is released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Justin Deal, of Ames, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a no insurance charge, a failure to illuminate rear plate charge and a fraudulent use of registration charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 30. Deal is released on his promise to appear.

• Amber Lee Pfantz made an appearance through counsel, Chad Frese, on a driving while revoked charge and a failure to use interlock device charge. Pfantz waived her preliminary hearing. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Say Kler Htoo made an initial appearance through a Karen interpreter on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Htoo pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Luis Fernando Hernandez made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Hernandez pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Jose Maria Alvarez Jr. made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Alvarez pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Zachary Steven Bolar made an initial appearance supplying alcohol to persons under legal age charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on July 30. Bolar is released on his promise to appear.

• Marcas Roland Woerner made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Woerner pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Julio Cesar Garcia made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Garcia pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Rocio Nunez made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Nunez pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 22 in Magistrate Court.

Incidents

• On Tuesday, a theft from a building in the 1700 block of Edgebrook Drive was reported to the Marshalltown Police Department.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Heather Reeder, 38, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-first offense.

• On Tuesday, Patrick McWilliams, 39, was arrested for dogs at large.

• On Tuesday, Matthew Barber, 37, was arrested for contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order.

• On Wednesday, Daniel Scates, 27, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Sean Eric Turnbull, 48, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Anthony Scott Powell, 31, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Amber Lee Pfantz, 27, was arrested for operating without interlock device and driving while license is denied or revoked.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Michael Wayne Scott, 32, of Gilman, was northbound on Parker Street when it attempted a left turn onto 248th Street crossing the path of a pickup, obscured by dust from another vehicle, driven by Roger Duane Henze, 71, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Henze pickup was estimated at $5,000 while the Scott pickup received an estimated $4,000 in damage.
