• Quentin Mohammed Pendleton made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood causing bodily injury charge and a possession of marijuana-third offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 20. Pendleton is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by the end of the work day on Monday to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Gustavo Alonso Perez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a public intoxication charge. Perez pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 15 in Magistrate Court. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. Perez is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Rafael Lopez Barboza made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge and a possession of marijuana-third offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 20. Barboza is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• John Kevin Allen made an initial appearance on a prohibited use of fireworks charge. Allen pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Perla Mirella Andrade Morelos made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 20. Andrade Morelos is released on her promise to appear.

• Jacob Aaron Youngbear, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 19. Youngbear is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• A 16-year-old male made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a speeding charge. He pleaded not guilty on the no insurance charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 8 in Magistrate Court. He pleaded guilty to the speeding charge and the fine is $40 with a $14 surcharge, $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $119, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Rebeca Mendoza-Lara, 30, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Southridge Road when it left the travel portion of the road and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported. Mendoza-Lara was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance. Damage to the Mendoza-Lara vehicle was estimated at $5,000 while the utility pole received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Chris Alan Uitermark, 50, of Marshalltown, was exiting a parking spot at The Landromat when it collided with a pickup truck pulling into the parking lot driven by Justin Clyde Spencer, 34, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated at $900 while the Uitermark car received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, a minivan driven by a 17-year-old female from Marshalltown was westbound on East High Street and entered an unmarked intersection where she collided with the rear passenger side of a car driven by Santiago Perez-Hernandez, 39, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

• On Sunday,, a Suburu SUV was legally parked in the 2400 block of South Third Avenue when it received hit and run damage to the driver’s side quarter panel. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
