Wednesday

• Brian Lacsina Demesa, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge, a theft-fourth degree charge and through counsel, Jennie Wilson-Moore on a burglary-third degree charge. Wilson-Moore withdrew from the case due to the new charges and the public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15. Demesa was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Christian Alvin Krupp made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 5. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Donald Wellington Wanatee Jr. made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The District Associate Court will schedule the probation revocation hearing. Wanatee is being held without bond.

• Luis Gerardo Ramirez made an initial appearance on two counts of a driving under suspension charge. Ramirez pleaded guilty to both charges and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 for each charge, due in 30 days.

• Cassie Rae Eastwood made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Eastwood pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 for each charge, due in 30 days.

• Patrick David McWilliams made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. McWilliams pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 for each charge, due in 30 days plus a $25 donation to the Animal Rescue League.

• William Thomas Burns made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving while revoked charge, a no seat belt charge, a no interlock device charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15. Burns is released on his promise to appear.

• Ryan Scott Nichols made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Nichols pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 21 in Magistrate Court.

• On Tuesday, two burglaries were reported in the 1100 block of South Sixth Street.

• On Tuesday, Matthew Ray Allen Thompson, 46, was arrested for interference with official acts, operating while under the influence, eluding and operating without an interlock device.

• On Tuesday, Micheal Reeves, 39, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

• On Tuesday, Gerardo Velazco, 19, was arrested for driving while barred.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Tanya Nicole Halverson, 24, of Marshalltown, was westbound on East Main Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Halverson car was estimated at $5,000.
