• Deven Ray Spinks made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. Spinks pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in Magistrate Court.

• Cody Ryan Kopel made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Kopel is released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Amber Rose Niederklopper made an initial appearance on a harassment-third degree charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a trespass charge. Niederklopper pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 in Magistrate Court. Niederklopper was released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• James Gerald Williams made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a operating without registration plate or card charge. Williams pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the registration violation was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Matthew Dale Haines made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Haines pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 in Magistrate Court.

• Danielle Nicole Grice made an initial appearance on two counts of a driving under suspension charge, a violation of a condition of restricted license charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Grice pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fines are $250 each with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each charge. The fine on the restricted license charge is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Emalie Kay Olson made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Olson pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 each with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Tamara Anne Smith made an initial appearance on an unlawful passing of a school bus charge. Smith pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 in Magistrate Court.

• Sam Patrick Williams made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a possession of marijuana charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Mary Lou Mathilda Daniel made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Daniel pleaded guilty and the fine $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Justin Scott Zitzow made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Alexander Bravo Hernandez made an initial appearance on a reckless driving charge, a speeding charge, a failure to maintain control charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Bravo Hernandez pleaded guilty to all charges. On the reckless charge the fines are $65 each with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the speeding charge is $125 with a $43.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $228.75. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. The fine on the failure to maintain control is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• On Thursday, Devin Micheal Lagrone, 18, was cited for speeding and driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Jason Hall, 37, was arrested for theft-third degree.

• On Thursday, Molly Gummert, 31, was arrested for open container in a public place and trespass.

• On Thursday, Amber Niederklopper, 35, was arrested for trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment-third degree.

• On Thursday, Matthew Haines, 45, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

• On Friday, a car driven by Najma Warsame, 25, of Des Moines, was eastbound on East Main Street stopped at the intersection with Third Avenue and it proceeded forward without clearing the intersection and collided with a car driven by Ryan James Butcher, 22, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Warsame was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Warsame car was estimated at $8,000 while the Butcher car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Thomas Ray Winch, 68, of Marshalltown, was backing up from a parking spot at Git ‘N Go when it backed too far and struck a gas pump resulting in a small spill.

No injuries were reported. Damage to both the Winch pickup and the gas pump was estimated at $2,000 each.

• On Thursday, a minivan driven by Todd Alan Kruse, 54, of Tama, was northbound on Governor Road when a deer jumped out of a ditch and was struck causing functional damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kruse minivan was estimated at $5,000.

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Ronald Gene Sherman, 68, of Marshalltown, was southbound on 12th Avenue stopped at East Main Street when it proceeded forward into the path of a car driven by Jane Wesley Gummert, 66, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Sherman was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Sherman pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Gummert car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a minivan driven by Teresa Kay Spencer, 54, of Marshalltown, was on an off ramp attempting to turn right onto South Third Avenue when a bicycle driven by James Fred Douglas collided into the side of the minivan. Douglas was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Spencer was cited for no valid driver’s license. Damage to the Spencer minivan was estimated at $800.

• On Saturday, a pickup driven by Roberto Carlos Gonzalez-Cervantes, 34, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on West Boone Street when it left the traveled portion of the road and struck a tree on the terrace of 1100 W. Boone St. No injuries were reported. Gonzalez-Cervantes was cited for failure to maintain control and driving under suspension. Damage to the Gonzalez-Cervantes pickup was estimated at $5,000.
