Monday

• Kaytlyn Sue Lewis, of Eldora, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. Lewis was directed to contact her attorney immediately. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 11. Lewis was released on her promise to appear.

• Christopher Douglas Maahs, of Colfax, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Maahs pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. Maahs was released on his promise to appear.

• Cole Blake Purdy made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Aron Vaughn will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Purdy is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Anthony Michael Larkin made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 3. Larkin is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Antonio Avalos Garcia made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. Avalos Garcia pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 6 in Magistrate Court.

• A 16-year-old male made an initial appearance on a possession of tobacco under the legal age limit-third offense charge. The magistrate set a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23 in Magistrate Court and directed the juvenile to appear with one parent.

• Jennyfer Jean Hicks, of Clemons, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Hicks pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court. Jeffrey Hazen is appointed as counsel.

• Brianna Chante Dean made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 4. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Daniel Mayen Deng made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. Deng pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Joseph Xavier Lay, of Boone, made an initial appearance on an operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and a carrying weapons charge. Melissa Nine has been hired as counsel. The preliminary hearing has been waived. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Lilea Flower Moore made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Moore pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in Magistrate Court.

• On Sunday, a theft of a motor vehicle was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.

• On Sunday, a case of theft involving the unauthorized use of a credit card was reported in the 500 block of Springfield Drive.

• On Friday, a theft valued between $1,000 – $10,000 was reported in the 900 block of North Fourth Avenue.

• On Friday, a case of forgery was reported in the 2200 block of South Center Street.

• On Friday, an accident involving striking fixtures was reported in the 500 block of West Linn Street.

• On Friday, a burglary of a motor vehicle was reported in the 400 block of Plaza Heights Road.

• On Sunday, Maria Garcia-DeNunez, 61, was arrested for no proof of vaccination and dogs at large.

• On Sunday, Samuel Cisneros Alcoser, 25, was arrested for operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Sunday, Christopher Maahs, 33, was arrested for theft-fifth degree.

• On Sunday, Cole Purdy, 18, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court.

• On Sunday, Luis Chavarria, 18, was arrested for carrying weapons, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substance violation.

• On Sunday, Amphay Songkhamdet, 48, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Accidents

• On Sunday, a car driven by Christopher Duane Petersen, 43, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Main Street Road when a deer jumped onto the roadway and Petersen moved to the shoulder to avoid hitting the deer causing the car to go out of control, enter the south ditch striking a utility pole and causing power lines to come down before coming to rest west of the power pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Petersen car was estimated at $9,000 while the utility pole received an estimated $8,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Perla Saldana, 29, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Third Avenue in the outside lane when it collided with the passenger side door of a pickup driven by Ryan Patrick Clemons, 27, of Union, which has veered left to make a right turn into Tri-State Lock’s parking lot. No injuries were reported. Saldana was cited for no valid driver’s license and no insurance. Damage to bot vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.

• On Friday, a minivan driven by Lona Amae Bradbury, 34, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Fourth Street when it passed a car driven by Tyler John Smith, 36, of Marshalltown and then pulled directly in front to make a right turn resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Bradbury was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to the Bradbury minivan was estimated at $2,000 while the Smith car received an estimated $750 in damage.

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Berdette Orman Bryngelson, 88, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Sixth Street when it proceeded from the stop sign at Westwood Drive and broadsided a car driven by Dale Leroy Shepard, 70, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Due to Bryngelson’s confused responses, the officer ordered a re-exam be taken. Damage to the Bryngelson pickup was estimated at $500 while the Shepard car received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

Arrests

• On Saturday, Elizabeth Andrade, 32, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Saturday, Patrick Roger Williams, 49, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Jimmy Arnold Miller, 49, was arrested for no insurance, no valid commercial driver’s license, failure to file SR-22 insurance and driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

Accidents

• On Sunday, a car driven by Edu Aragon Hernandez, 39, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Reed Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Aragon Hernandez car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Craig William Helle, 40, of Des Moines, was eastbound on 160th Street stopped at the intersection with Sanford Avenue when the driver proceeded forward to make a left turn and pulled in front of a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female from Ackley resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Helle was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $10,000 each.
