• Kyaw Mya, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance through a Burmese interpreter on a sex abuse-second degree charge, a sex abuse-third degree charge and an assault with intent to commit sexual abuse charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 11. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only. Should Mya obtain release, then he is to be released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours of release to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Trenton Michael Dodd made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver charge, a keeping a premises or vehicle for the purpose of selling or using drugs charge, a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge, a possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 8. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Timothy Wayne Stirle Jr. made an initial appearance on a sex offender registry violation-second or subsequent offense charge and a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 11. Stirle is being held without bond.

Phillip Randall Dunston made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine-second offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on March 11. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Zachary Seabrooke made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m on March 21.

• Warren Eugene Carmer made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge and a no proof of vaccination charge. Carmer pleaded guilty to both charges and the fines are $65 each with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 plus a $25 civil penalty charge, due within 30 days.

• Shelby Leann See made an initial appearance on a false reporting to a public entity charge. See pleaded not guilty and the pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 13 in Magistrate Court.

• On Thursday, a case of forgery was reported in the 2200 block of South Center Street.

Arrests

• On Friday, Phillip Randall Dunston, 19, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On Thursday, Ashley Lively, 35, was arrested for no insurance and driving while revoked.

• On Thursday, Adolfo Sanchez-Cervantes, 31, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

• On Thursday, Logan Calkins, 19, was arrested for contempt of court-violation of a no-contact order.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a minivan driven by Roman Martinez Cano, 36, of Marshalltown, was northbound on North Third Avenue when it collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Raul Mendoza Vargas, 35, of Marshalltown, which had slowed to make a left turn. No injuries were reported. Martinez Cano was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Martinez Cano minivan was estimated at $2,000 while the Mendoza Vargas pickup received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, Timothy Stirle Jr., 38, was arrested on a warrant charging him with voluntary absence from custody and sex offender registry violation-second or subsequent offense.
