University Museums’ 9th Annual Brunnier in Bloom March 24-26

AMES — University Museum’s 9th annual Brunnier in Bloom will be happening March 24-26 this year in the Brunnier Art Museum, located on the second floor of the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center. This highly anticipated annual event is a great way to celebrate spring, community and innovative design as Central Iowa florists, garden clubs, artists and students are challenged to create arrangements inspired by art from the current exhibitions.

All of the activities during this flower-filled weekend are free and open to the public.

To kick things off and be the first to hear the judges reveal this year’s winners, come for opening night during Flowers After Hours on March 24, from 6-8 p.m. in the Brunnier Art Museum, 295 Scheman Bldg., Iowa State Center. This year’s judges include: Kate Gregory, ISU senior vice president for University Services; Rob Wallace, artist and associate professor of Botany, and Frankie Parrott. The Amateur Excellence Judge is Vicki Lage. At this event, enjoy live music by Dang Felton and Michaela Thompson, light refreshments and a cash bar. You will also have the chance to mingle with the floral artists. There will be a chance for visitors to vote for the People’s Choice award and participate in a raffle to win prizes throughout the entire weekend. All proceeds support University Museums’ educational programming.

If you can’t make the opening night, the weekend showcase will take place March 25 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Brunnier Art Museum. Children’s crafts will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A presentation titled “Designing Your Home Landscape” will be presented by Chris Strawhacker, ISU landscape architect, at 2 p.m. on March 25. Visitors will receive half-off admission to Reiman Gardens for the weekend.

Brunnier in Bloom 2017 is organized by University Museums. Raffle prizes generously donated by Ames Vinyl Grind, Dan the Fish Publishing, Raygun, Reiman Gardens and many more.

Free parking is available north and south of the Scheman Building.
